the only way to make for sure is to go to your family doctor. if you are having any signs i would go right away. it is better to catch it early than wait a long time.

Walgreen Drugs has a cute little disposable meter called the SideKick. Costs around $35 and contains about 50 test strips. They are good for 90 days.

Do the finger pricking every morning as you get out of bed. Wash hands well and dry them well. Any reading over 120 on a weeks worth of testing should be taken to the doctor.

Adult onset diabetes or Type 2 diabetes is not just an old people's disease!! It is being diagnosed more and more in teens and jr teens. This is because of the way we are taught to eat!! The food pyramid causes most of our woes. With the weight of it being in the bottom layer!! If this layer were to be lopped off and people never again ate any grains, cereals, rices, etc we would have much less chance of the damaged genes taking control and giving us diabetes.

Of course. Go to wallmart, or any well stocked drugstore but wallmart is cheapest, and buy a glucose monitor there. Also purchase the sticks to put into the monitor to make it work and I think it will come with a lancet/sticker to get the blood to test. It's very easy, it just looks hard.

I did exactly this when I had symptoms; I bought it all myself, then took my blood sugars over a week and then I called a diabetic center for an appointment. They said "who referred you?" I said myself. They said "what makes you think you are diabetic?" I said my sugars were in the 350's most of the time during the week I had been testing myself. They said "when can you come in?!" It was that easy.

You should hope for numbers between 90 to 110 for fasting blood sugar (first thing in the morning before you eat is the most reliable number you'll get) and the same numbers or close to it two hours or more after a meal. Numbers in the 350's are common for diabetics. 600's and close to that mean hospital time.

Do not let the internet information scare you; just get your numbers and be prepared to get yourself to a doctor if they are very high. Many medications will get them down to normal leavels and the sooner you find out the better off you'll be.
