Diabetes II in 20-year-old? |
Hey - I've been looking for a diagnosis for a while, and today a family friend (a doctor) got my mom freaked out that I have type II diabetes. Oh, and I've been dizzy most of the time for the last few months, and I've got a very low pulse (40s). My mom is freaking out that it means the nerve damage is setting in or something. It seems very unlikely that you have diabetes 2. First all the sugar levels you quote in your message are within the normal range. Many people drink about 8-10 cups of water for health reasons and you are drinking a bit more. You also heal well another sign that you are not diabetic. It sounds more likely that you may have another medical problem but not related to diabetes at all. I was also a skinny 20 year who drank pitchers of water, extremely fatigued, did not heal well and I was diagnosed with diabetes 1..my sugar levels were over 400...diabetes 2 happens to people in their late 30's or 40's and people who are often overweight and can control it with diet. You should see your doctor and I wish you all the best. Cherie VEry unlikely. In fact all the signs are pointing to NO. If your blood glucose levels are normal than that should rule out diabetes right there. Are you aon any medication??? Hey, it sounds doubtful that you have Type 2 diabetes, as you are a normal weight and eat well as well as excercise regularly. If the doctors are still suspecting diabetes then they arent thinking of the type of diabetes that you would associate with being overweight and inactive etc.(type II diabetes) There are different types of diabetes that have to do with hormone levels and stuff. 20 yrs old is not too old for type I diabetes (and Im not saying iit is definately that either) I can't be type II diabetes in a fit and active 20 yr old with normal blood sugar. If it is type I diabetes it is very manageable. Try not to get too concerned about diseases until you have a definate diagnosis. |
