Bulimia and Diabetes Type 2 link? |
Does anyone know of any research or anything on any related connections between Bulimia and developing Type 2 Diabetes? I don't know of any studies or research on the connection, but I can see how they might be related. Binging on too many carbs can overwork the pancreas, to the point that the pancreas can no longer produce sufficient amounts of insulin. (Carbs turn into glucose in the blood. The pancreas needs to produce extra insulin to compensate for the extra glucose. If this extra insulin production goes on too long, it can wear out the pancrease. I learned this in my diabetes class.) There is no connection. Totally unrelated. Bulimia involves gorging with food and then deliberately and voluntarily purging to avoid weight gain. Type 2 diabetes is a disease. It is not voluntary. It occurs when the insulin produced is ineffective at handling and controlling the patient's blood sugar. Blood sugar imbalances are often prompted by chronic mineral deficiencies. The vast majority of people living in industrialized nations suffer from deficiencies in major minerals like zinc, magnesium and selenium, and in other nutrients. The brain, sensing these deficiencies, sends the signal to keep eating until the needed minerals are acquired, but since most modern processed foods are virtually devoid of these minerals, a person will never achieve the necessary mineralization consumption, no matter how much food they eat. |
