in febuary 2006 my 12 year old brother was diagnosed with diabetes type 1 its been really hard for him and the family he's really stressed out and im worried for him i was wondering if theres anyone with diabetes type 1 and is under 15 that can become friend with my brother just to gve him sopport I'm not under 15 but you can check this out. http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/inde... Hey there, I'm sorry your brother and family are still suffering. The disease is still new. I am 15 and have type-1 diabetes. When I was first diagnosed, me and my family were completely stressed all the time, I would have random bouts of crying and i felt really isolated, I don't know any kids my age who have type-1 diabetes and sometimes i get really bummed. But my family is really great. Something that he might want to try is a diabetes camp, it might sound like a bad idea, but a diabetes camp, he will instantly have something in common with everyone, its a great way to forge lasting friendships. Vanessa, check in your local area for a diabetic support group for teens. The local hospital should be able to direct you. Also I asume he has a diabetic educator, ask them for support info. i am a type 1 I was diagnoised at age 29 and I can tell you that was hard enough, much less being a child. My kids are 10 and 12 now and I can not imagine them going through what I have in the past few years. I can say this is does get better. yep i do. and im 14. i got it when i was three. you can email me =) Shh...Don't tell, I am 12 and I have type One Diabetes. What does he need help with. I have had diabetes since I was 5 years old. I can help. E-mail me at scoutsmaster@comcast.net . Awesome I am not under 15 years old, as a matter of fact I am in my 40s with diabetes 1. I was diagnosed when I was under 6 months old. My family was a great support team. Some other options to find a support team include contacting the local hospital to see what they may have to offer, contact the American Diabetes Association (they used to have a summer camp at one time), write letters to sports stars and movie stars who have diabetes, Ron Santo of the Chicago Cubs baseball is a diabetic, Mary Taylor Moore is a diabetic, there are many famous people who are willing to assist newly diagnosed diabetics. The hardest part of being a diabetic to the diabetic is accepting it in school, at least it was for me. I needed the support of my family in order to establish the fact that we can do anything we want to. I went to summer diabetic camp and latter counseled there as well. I have completed 26.2 mile marathons wearing a "I am Diabetic" t-shirt. Once the diabetic child realizes he isn't stopped from living a full life he will need less and less support from those nearest to him. The best support starts with his family and himself to accepting it. Best wishes and good luck. i am 12 |
