You get it by your body either stopping production of insulin or by the body not being able to use the insulin being made (Insulin resistance). Type 2 is also called age or maturity onset as its usually seen in people over the age of 40.
Site below gives more info

Poor diet and lack of exercise. Try checking out the Diabetic Association and you will find lots of information. Sugars are found in many foods besides sweets. Potatoes, white pasta, white bread and alcohol are just a few. Normally, type 2 affects people over 40 and can be prevented and if dealt with soon enough can be turned around where type one can not.

Its mostly due to genes. If you have the gene in your family that can cause diabetes when you get over 40 and get heavy, then you are likely more prevelant to get diabetes type 2.

If you dont have it, then you dont have to worry about it...

I wish you well..

Jesse

No one knows how you get it (and I have it). Some doctors think it is genetic. Most believe that bad eating habits and obesity increase the risk of diabetes but that maybe increasing the risk of showing symptoms even though it may not affect the risk of getting diabetes. If you naturally excercise a lot and don't much care for sugar you could live a lifetime with diabetes and never know you have it.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 (formerly called diabetes mellitus type II, non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM), obesity related diabetes, or adult-onset diabetes) is a metabolic disorder that is primarily characterized by insulin resistance, relative insulin deficiency, and hyperglycemia. It is presently incurable. It is rapidly increasing in the developed world, and there is some evidence that this pattern will be followed in much of the rest of the world in coming years. The CDC has characterized the increase as an epidemic

Type 2 diabetes is generally caused by poor lifestyle. Lack of exercise and poor eating habits are generally the predominate factors in type 2 diabetes. It is also genetic. If a person has family history of type 2 diabetes then the likelihood of getting the disease increases. Type 2 diabetes is treatable and preventable. If a person watches their diet and exercises regularly, they have a good chance of not getting the disease. If they already have it, they can also control it with lifestyle changes.

eatin sugar, sugar

Well type 2, is when the pancreous gives up producing Insulin all togeather, then shrivels up. Type 1 is managed by pills, that jolt the pancreous into producing Insulin to turn the sugar in the blood stream into energy. When the pancreous no longer produces insulin, it must be injected manually.

Diabetes mellitus Type 2 was formerly also known as adult onset diabetes but with the high incidence of children and teenagers acquiring this disease, that alternate name has been dicontinued. DM2 is a result of insufficient insulin production by the B Islet cells of the pancreas or the production of insulin that cannot be used by the body.

The most common cause is still heredity. It's usually a matter of genetics. The second most common cause is a combination of diet, obesity and lifestyle. Diet: Carbohydrates metabolize (break down) into glucose. Normally, the insulin produced is sufficient to deal with this. But when the diet is consistently high in carbs, Islet cells are exhausted and insulin production drops. Excess carbs are also stored as fat. Obesity: Fat (adipose tissue) is resistant to insulin. Central obesity (fat around the middle) is particularly associated with diabetes. Lifestyle: Frequent exercise require fuel for cells. Glucose is used as an energy source for cells. If exercise is inadequate, there's no need for most blood glucose to be used. Some is stored as glycogen and the rest continues to cirulate in the blood as glucose.

In children and teens, a diet high in carbohydrates, central obesity and a sedentary lifestyle are the cause.

There is no cure for DM1 or 2 although Islet cell transplant looks promising. FYI: DM1 is also known as Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus/IDDM and DM2 is non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus/NIDDM. The majority of those with DM2 will go on to require insulin along with oral antihyperglycemics as they age.

If you run a search for Diabetes mellitus Type 2 I'm sure you'll find a lot of websites that will give you much information. And you can always go the American Diabetes Association website.
