Type 1 Diabetes and Pregnancy...?

Hi all,

I am looking for personal experiences--moms and mothers-to-be with Type 1 Diabetes, how difficult is it to manage your diabetes while pregnant? Does the pregnancy affect your sugars, and is it hard to keep your sugars where they should be? Also did you wear your insulin pump during your pregnancy?

I am just very curious because my husband and I are almost ready to start trying for a baby. I have had Type 1 Diabetes for almost 10 years now and my A1C level is usually between 6.5-7.0, which I though was pretty good, but my OB/GYN said that it needs to be better before we actually start trying to conceive. I also use an insulin pump.

Thanks so much, any responses are really appreciated!!!!

I have type 1 and had my son in july of 2005 my first.my sugar was all over but other than that all was good.he is not diabetic however he had a sugar of 35 at birth.the reason for the doc to want your a1c lower is its harder to conceive the higher it is.It took us 7 years and getting ready to work on #2.

I have diabetes and I am really nervous about this. I hear your number has to be under 120 for the first 3 months or the baby has a chance of developing birth defects, :( I don't even see that as being possible...

I am 29 and have an 8 year old health little girl. I have been on the pump for 12 year and other than getting food poisoning everything was great. I had a great Dr. that was very cautious with me and my daughter. The only bad thing was her sugar droped after birth and she had to get it up right after birth. I have not had another child yet but I am getting ready. I hope that everything goes well with you.
