Type II Diabetes and Pregnancy?

Anyone have Type II diabetes and have a successful pregnancy? What did you have to do prior to becoming pregnant? How did you control your blood sugar before and during pregnancy?

Just wondering. Any info I find on pregnancy and diabetes is about gestational diabetes which is different than type II.

Work with a perinatal group before becoming pregnant.
You will have to give up oral meds in favor of insulin for the pregnancy.
You will be checked often and may find pregnancy a full time job.
You may deliver early and your baby may go to the NICU for 24 hours to keep a good check on his/her blood sugar levels.
It is all worth it in the end.

check out the national institute for health site below

I have had 2 children, however you really have to make sure to eat 6-8 very small balanced meals and snacks. one of my girls was 8 lbs 3 oz when born and my 2nd daughter ws 10 lbs 2 oz- I was told not to have any more children because they were so big when born. They are healthy adults now one is 26 years old and the oldest is 29 years old. I did nothing before becoming pregnant except keep my sugars and ketons checked and mild excercise like walking.

As long as your diabetes is under good control and you watch your diet, you should not have any trouble. I know a lot of women that have gone through it.
