I have type 1 diabetes, was recently hospitalized w/ dka. know any providers who'll insure me?

the day i learned i had type 1 diabetes, my health care coverage ran out. i was on my father's plan, but it only covers you up to age 25. so when i turned 25, i was diagnosed w/ type 1 diabetes (happy birthday to me!). since then i've been uninsured, and recently hospitalized w/ dka. anyhow, i'm taking much better care of myself now, and that means buying/using different types of meds and testing supplies, plus visiting the doc on a regular basis. all this is costly. i need health insurance! i tried applying for kaiser, but they won't qualify me. i appiled for blue cross (ca), but i fear given my medical condition/history, they won't qualify me either. heck, i even applied for disability (ssi), but they, too, say i don't qualify! (2 boughts w/ dka this year alone, and boy am i feeling crappy!) yet they tell me what i'm experiencing isn't restricting pain, but mild discomfort. yeah, right! at any rate, does anyone know a good health care provider who'll insure me for under $100 a month?

I have Blue Cross/ Blue Sheild, Same thing just happened to my husband!!!

Under $100.00 a month good luck unless you get it through work no insurance for any kind of health will be under $100.00.
If you make under 18,000 yearly apply for medicade or charity care through your hospital.
On another note if you paid private when you were diagnosed with diabetes then dont even state this to the insurance company when you apply for insurance. The only way they find out about illnesses is when you list them or have prior insurance, because they pull the records from all your visits under that insurance.
If you are self pay as i stated. Then find another MD for now and then apply for insurance. Tell them he is your primary and when they pull his records you will be clean and your premium will be lower. But do check into charity care through the hospital and medicade if you make under $18k yearly.
best of luck and make sure to monitor your sugar.

I feel your pain. My husband worked fo a large company we had great health care. We started our oun business and had to buy our own ins. We were healthly (we have 2 kids but in our state our income was low enough for them to get medicaid just not us) so we bought into a plan we could afford but it had high copays (the ins. was 200 a month) Then it started to go up we were shopping around for a better plan had it all ready to go then that day I was hopitalized w/ type 1. We were stuck so for 3 years we paid 500 a month for the ins. and 250 - 350 a month for my meds (we only make 2200.00 a month total) Well we live in Mi. and a friend of ours sells ins. and found a loop hole so starting yesterday we now have good group ins. The rate is a little less but my meds will be way less. (we will save about 300 a month) There were weeks I had to decide between food for my family and insulin for me. That is the worst pain in the world. I don't have an answer for you but just keep looking try the local health deptarment, or a social worker with the hospital somewhere out there there has got to be help. When you get a job that offers group ins some states have rules that the ins. can not turn you down for any health history if its group ins. That was my loop hole. We live in ohio but own the business in mi we tried both states. Funny part to my story our new ins. is blue cross blue shield of MI. I guess I am lucky to live in mi thats all.
