Is Type-1 or Type-2 Diabetes still diagnosed?

I am researching all I can find about (the differences in) Type-1 and Type-2 Diabetes.
My mother had passed away with (what was called) "Type-1 Hyperglycemia." - She had relied on her repeated Insulin injections until her passing (2002) at age 68 years.
My father has, since this ^ time been very (actually he is OVERLY) cautious by keeping a point-by-point watch on his own blood glucose levels. Even though nobody in his family has any record of Diabetes, Dad remains adimate about his blood sugar levels claiming that he is over-borderline Hyperglycemic.
Dad does use a Glucometer and measures (average) 90-100 p.p.m. Glucose level
How / if likely will it be for Dad to begin needing any sort of regimin (by diet-modification or insulin injections) to control his blood sugar levels. - He is 76 y.o. and he remains very active.
And, ultimately how likely will I begin to need any sort of "regimin" to control my blood sugar levels?
%I am a healthy, active, 44 y.o. caucasion gentleman.

Well, if your mother had real type I diabetes (which usually starts much earlier in life) and it sounds like your father does not have diabetes at all (technically 100 is the upper limit of normal for a fasting glucose, between 100 and 125 is considered to be impaired fasting glucose, which is a prediabetic state, and above 126 is diabetes) I would say that your chances of developing type I at this age are very low and that of developing type 2 is that of the normal population.
If what you tell me about your father is accurate, then he isn't really in danger of becoming diabetic any time soon, and regular surveillance when he goes to his doctor should be fine to catch it if it does happen.

Hi
May be type 1 for ur mom. May be ur dad don't have diabetic. Any how take good care of them.

Sounds to me like your dad is perfectly normal with his blood sugars. Must be doing something right. I would be on the cautious side with your health. By eating healthy, cutting out junk food and exercising, that should be all the regimen you need unless your doctor states otherwise. You need to check with your doctor for testing and advice. Always start with him.
