Type 1 diabetes? |
If somebody has type 1 diabetes and are not being treated for it, therefore they have erectile dysfunction, will that symptom go away or get better if they start being treated for the diabetes? (taking insulin)......? What the responder above me said is correct. If you're type 1 and not taking insulin, then you're going to have a lot more to worry about than your penis. If there has been permanent nerve or blood vessel damage it will not get better. This is a good example of why it is important to stick to the treatment so you can avoid the complications. Theres always Viagra and similar meds. A patient with diabetes should always be very care full for it's proper treatment including medicines, ADA diet, exercise, proper monitoring etc, and close follow up with the doctor. The erectile dysfunction that goes along with diabetes is a result of damage to blood vessels caused by high sugar levels in the blood. Controlling the blood sugar level through diet, medication and insulin is the most important aspect of managing type I diabetes. Type I is the kind that develops in childhood and is most likely to be brittle (difficult to control). It is very important to get treated, which means learning how to manage it yourself, check your blood sugar, eat right and use medication as needed. I can't say for sure if ED symptoms will go away, but they will only get worse if the diabetes is out of control. There is at least a good chance of improving your overall health, including the ED if you learn to control the diabetes. You can also get other nasty complications from diabetes (like blindness, kidney failure and gangrene). Getting control of diabetes is pretty cheap (some clinic appointments, a meter to check blood sugar and some instruction from a nurse and a dietician). Ignoring it is very expensive. Good Luck if somebody has type 1, and is not taking insulin, they'd be dead. may sound a little extreme, but it's the truth. Do you mean they're not taking care of themselves? If they're not being treated, they'll be dead. Type 1 requires insulin shots or pump to stay alive. If they've just been lax, then tightening their insulin regimen and testing and correcting more often can help turn around some symptoms. I used to have tingly feet and kidney damage before I went on the pump, and both went away within a year. It just depends on the individual. |
