What isTurner's (Monosomy) NORD - Turner Syndrome? what are the symptoms? what causes it? is there a cure? |
what are some random facts? Turner syndrome is caused by the lack (or partial lack)of an x chromosome, it only affects females..there is no real "cause" of TS it is nothing to do with a parents age, ethnic origin or alcohol use........it just happens , it is sporadic..... Turners syndrome is a monosomy of the sex chromosomes. There is an X but not a second Y or X chromosome. The subject is small in stature and has retarded sexual development. They appear to be female but are sterile. Turner's syndrome results from complete or partial absence of 1 of the 2 sex chromosomes, producing a phenotypic female. Diagnosis is based on clinical findings and confirmed by karyotype analysis. Treatment depends on manifestations and may include surgery for cardiac anomalies, and often growth hormone therapy for short stature and estrogen replacement for pubertal failure. |
