*Home>>>Turner Syndrome

My daughter is 13 years and 7 months old, she hasn't started puberty yet, and i mean nothing has happened what

so ever. she looks a lot younger than her years and she is below the height she should be. she has been to the hospital and had to have blood tests and xray and she is waiting now for the results, on the form for the chromasom blood test it had '? turner' now i understand that means they are checking for turners syndrome, and i have looked on the internet about that but if she had this surly it would have been noticed as a baby? looking at the other symptoms of turners does it mean she would have all symptoms or some of them? she has to wait for the results in a few weeks and see the dr in august just after her 14th birthday. if she hasn't started puberty by then she will give her something to start it off. does anyone know how long it takes for the tablets to start? i just don't know how many more letter i can write for her P.E teacher at school before she sdoesnt believe me.

This is for cookie really.who said it was me being paranoid about my daughters pubery,if you must know it didnt start with me,my daughter was the one who kept asking me to do notes for school for PE,i had no idea at the time what for,she gave all different reasons to me why she couldnt do it, now she says the reason for the notes to school about PE is because she is embarressed as she is the only one not developed at all,she tries to hid herself from everyone, that didnt start with me,MY DAUGHTER was the one to ask to go to the dr's,MY DAUGHTER is the one who was really pleased when she went to the hospital and saw the dr,she had a woman dr and she was lovely and she was so glad she had her.so it's not me pushing her to seek the dr's help, she wanted to do it, i wouldnt have done anything unless she asked for it, she just needed me with her. my daughter is the one who knows how she feels and what she wants.i came here for support not to be slaughtered for asking.

Don't ride this mom so hard for being concerned about her child's well being. The fact that the pediatrician has ordered tests rather than offer reassurance says there may be something there. Like any disease or syndrome, Turner's can present with a spectrum of severity. There may be some other clues like widely spaced nipples or slight neck webbing in addition to short stature and delay of menarche, that is concerning the physician. Turner's is an absence of the second sex chromosome, so the person has 45 chromosomes and is referred to as XO, with the O meaning absence of the second X chromosome. They can live long and meaningful lives, but don't have the capability to reproduce. There may be slight cognitive impairment or none at all. Best wishes on this, but even if she has Turner's remember that there are lots of worse things she could be diagnosed with.

Are you sure you should worry about this yet. I didn't hit puberty until I was almost 15, had my first period at 16! I didn't start truly growing until 15. In school I alwyas was the youngest looking and shortest kid, now I'm 5'9" (probably outgrown than all those 'tall kids' in school)and perfectly healthy! Don't rush kids to grow up.

The "average" age for puberty to start is someplace between age 12 and 16. So "Perfectly normal, perfectly healthy" most likely applies here.

Assuming that there is a medical condition preventing puberty from starting, there are much less severe conditions to focus on than Turner's, many of which can be readily treated.

Once your daughter starts developing breasts, it won't belong before you starts. If after a year she hasn't started, then I would see the gp.
