Can boys get Turners Syndrome too....or just girls? no only females are born with Turner Syndrome,, (you can't GET it).. Just girls. By definition, a person with Turners Syndrome has the chromosome makeup XO whereas females are XX and males are XY. Also, a person with Turners is born with the syndrome (not acquired later in life though it might take some time to be recognized). Girls have it all to themselves. Simple genetics lesson...in sex chromosomes XX = girl and XY = boy. It is the presence of the Y chromosome that causes the chemical reactions in the womb that make a boy a boy. Should the Y chromosome not be present, the result is a girl with Turner's Syndrome (TS). These indiviuals go on to live happy, healthy and productive lives. |
