What does she have?

My best friend suffers from TS. Turners Syndrome, and she has had this since she was born. I'm not sure the question I'm about to ask has anything to with TS, but I just wanted to fill you in on her conditions. OK, Jane has spurrs in her feet, and she cut her foot on glass about 2 years ago. She had to have surgery, it was her first. Since then she has had 6 times where her foot and leg has had a severe infection in it. Outside her leg gets red and swollen, she has a fever and she is in severe pain. The doctors havn't really given her a straight answer on why this keeps occuring. I feel because she had ts, in the summer she never wear shorts, because she doesn't want to be ambarassed, and she won't put her hair up because she has a webbed neck. The webbed neck doesn't have anything to do with this, but not letting her legs breathe when it's hot it not good. Legs sweat they need to breathe, and so does her feet, and she doesn't let them. That I thought could be way it keeps occuring.

So without the sweating thing I just told you , how about the fact the she keeps getting these infections. What is your opinon on this?

She could have a depressed immune system. Has she been checked for diabetes or other diseases that can cause slow healing?
They should take cultures before treating the infection. The antibiotics should be taken for the full course and never be stopped prematurely. Foot and leg infections can be very tough to heal sometimes. Does she stay off it completely when infected? Sometimes walking can actually make it worse.

If it keeps recurring - perhaps it is time to find a new dr., maybe even a podiatrist who specializes on treating diabetics. Even if she does not have diabetes, they deal with hard to treat cases.

I am guessing your friend is probably in high school, or is around that age? She is probably just really self conscious. Unfortunately, girls can be so self conscious that they will cover up regardless of the bad side effects.

Not getting a clear answer from a doctor is terrible. Maybe she should find another doctor. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN would probably be a good place to visit.

Don't pressure her to expose her legs. Maybe for her birthday, buy her a nice, light dress or longer skirt, so her skin can breathe, but she isn't showing her legs to the world.

So nice of you....you seem like a very good friend.
