How long does it take for fluconazole (Diflucan) to work on ringworm?

I have a terrible ringworm infection that I mistakenly treated with 1% hydrocortisone cream for the past few months, and it's worsened incredibly since then. My physician diagnosed it as ringworm, and prescribed griseofulvin and lotrimin. At first, the lotrimin helped considerably and cleared up the rash in a few days, but it started to become itchy, and, in my stupidity, I put a little hydrocortisone cream on it. Now it's spread to the other side of my neck and is constantly either burning, itching, crusting, or oozing clear liquid. My doctor took me off of those medications and now has me taking 200 mg of fluconazole once a week. I took my first dosage today, and my rash is less itchy now, but I think that's due to the calamine lotion he recommended. Is this fluconazole even going to work on my tinea corporis? Should I buy some lamisil cream? I know that fluconazole only inhibits the growth of the fungus, but if I could find something to kill it outright, that'd... be better.

You should begin to notice a considerable difference 24 hours after your first dose of diflucan. I would stick witht the calamine lotion, using a new cotton ball for each spot so you dont spread it.
I had ringworm once as a teenager, my mom just got some over the counter anti-fungal from the store, I applied that serveral times a day when needed and after showers, it went away in no time.
Best of luck to you.

I remember that it was 3 weeks to three months. Stubborn stuff, isn't it? I found TOLNAFTATE cream at the $.96 store and this seemed to help me although it didn't kill it and it always seems to be lurking around and waiting to flare up again.
