Question about my eating disorder bulimia? |
i'm 138 pounds, 5'2", and 16 years old. i'm bulimic and have been for a year and a half. only my best friend knows. i'm working on getting rid of it but its really hard.....on average i purge 2-4 times a week, sometimes more, . i am a lil overweight yet because before i developed bulimia i had compulisive eating disorder, which made me fat...ever since tho i have been maintaining my current weight. anyway, my question is, how at risk am i to suddenly die from purging? i heard that forcing urself to vomit can kill u without warning...it stops ur heart or something. i dont see blood in my vomit, but my throat is always a tad sore - especially after i eat - and my stomach, just recently, has begun hurting when i purge. like a stinging type of hurting. i have no other medical conditions, and i'm not malnutritioned cause i eat healthily and take mulitivitamins daily. so, what do u think? i'm just curious to know how at risk i am of dieing if i were to give in and purge again.... You don't have to see blood to be in danger from bulimia. With every single purge, you are at risk of cardiac arrest (which wouldn't cause bleeding - it's from salt imbalance), esophageal tears and stomach ruptures (both of which would cause bleeding - and could come out through vomit or stool). Even if you don't kill yourself, you face life-long complications. I speak from personal experience; I now, after 8 years of an eating disorder, have heart palpitations and tachycardia (heart rate of +130) which I have to control with meds. Let me tell you, it is the scariest thing in the world to have your heart freak out on you without warning. Not to mention the acid reducers I'm on to try to help heal my esophagus from nearly a decade of abuse. It's not fun at all. check into rehab, it is easier to get through it with help. if you cant afford it, try to get your insurance to pay for it, because it is considered a sickness. I don't know what the risk is for you. But I am sort of in the same situation, but I don't purge that often I do it when I'm stressed and stuff. But I always lose some of my voice and have a sore throat afterward. My parents don't know but my best freind knows, and I told my youth minister at church, I think you should tell someone like an adult or someone that you can trust, they can help you through this. My youth minister is awesome she is helping so much. So I hope you get better. I'm not really sure but I'd say at any time. In health you hear stories about how the bulimics purge or get into a stressful situation and their body chemicals electrolights in particular go haywire and cause all sorts of problems. It's true. Even if you feel at your healthiest, making yourself vomit can cause sudden cardiac arrest--that is, your heart can stop beating and you will die. That's not all bulimia can do to you, though. It can make your esophogus rupture; it's very painful and requires complicated surgery to fix. If your throat is sore like you say it is, the chances of this happening are VERY HIGH. Your risk is very high, although it's more likely that you'll pass out rather than just die: stop it. The acid from the vomit screws your stomach, as well as your teeth. And if you're vomiting up the healthy food and vitamins, that's really not what most would call not malnutritioned. I'd see a doctor if your stomach bothers you that much, as it can lead to an ulcer or worse. Although, I hope you see a doctor anyways if you haven't beat the bulimia yourself. Oh there are many ways, many ways. The pains you are feeling in your throat and stomach are the beginnings of an ulcer forming because of the acid rubbing up and down your esophagaus constantly. This is very damaging to your stomach and can cause permanent damage if you continue. It's not worth the risks at all...what good is being the size "society" thinks you should be six feet under?Be happy with yourself!Just eat healthy, nutritious foods, take your multi vitamins, and exercise regularly(but not in excess). If you take care of your inside, your outside will follow...I promise! I found a web-site that may help you out,and show you just how dangerous what you've been doing is.Since you're only 16,you've got a long, wonderful life ahead of you,as long as you make the right choices!Good luck! bulimia can lead to low levels of essential salts in the body. This can lead to death, and also causes weakness in the muscles, kidney problems, and heart problems. |
