Panic/Anxiety attacks brought on by alcohol? |
I have had panic attacks and GAD for the last two years and have recently noticed that if I have some cocktails in the evening the next day is like a rollercoaster of panic attacks. Feeling like my throat is closing and I am losing control of my body. Is there a direct link between alcohol consumption and panic and anxiety disorders? I should mention that on days I do not consume alcohol I am 80-90% okay. Has anyone out there found this to be the case? I definitely had this experience--there was a direct linkage between alcohol consumption and panic attacks. I quit drinking completely several years ago and since then I've had very few problems with panic. It's a fairly common experience for folks with anxiety disorder (such as panic attacks or GAD) to find that alcohol makes them MUCH worse the next day. It's not just you. Folks who have this connection are frequently advised to abstain entirely from alcohol consumption. When I quit drinking I had a BIG reduction in anxiety, it's totally related. |
