How does throat cancer cause your face to swell with fluid to the point your face looks like its going to pop?

my dad has throat cancer, the doctors say the presure from the tumor in his throat is making his face swell be on believe.

If the doctor says the swelling is from the tumor and not from any medications your father is taking, then it must be putting pressure on his vascular (cardio and/or lymph) system causing fluid to get backed up in the tissue of his face instead of continuing on through the vessels as it normally would.

Pressure from a tumor causing pressure on lymphatics or blood vessels and leading to backing up of fluid is exactly right.
Especially if the suprior Vena Cava is involved it will cause a red, purple swollen face and neck this is infact called the Superior Vena Cava Syndrome.
