Throat cancer cure for painful sores in mouth? |
My mother in law had undergone radio theraphy for throat cancer and now has developed painful sores in her mouth. What is the treatment available,if any for this. I'm an RN who previously had similar problems. What helped the most but I still had pain was a prescription of LIDOCAINE VISCOUS 2% Solution. I also kept the sore areas covered with the Pink Bismuth Subsalicylate also known by Pepto Bismol. My Physician also ordered a pain coctail that had 3 or 4 ingrediants in it that Oncology Physicians are very familiar with and order for cancer patients with mouth sores. It worked reasonably well and about the same as the Lidocaine solution but it didn't last very long; 30 minutes if I was lucky. However, it enabled me enough relief to be able to eat or drink and otherwise it hurt to much to do so. So please have your mother -in -law discuss these options with her Oncologist as I was blessed to have a physician who prescribed them for me. Good luck to all of you and I pray that the radiation therapy will prove to be the answer to your prayers. I'm not sure where you live but in England at Christies in Manchester it is a leading cancer hospital.they have what they call misparacetamol. it is paracetamol that has a soothing quality as it goes down the throat. it is said to relieve symptoms. I'm not sure if it is available in the community. if you cant get hold of any of this your doctor could prescribe her mouth washes such as chlorahexadine that helps with the sores in her mouth, good luck. My grandmother uses warm saltwater for hers, which her chemotherapy caused. My husband got the same thing while on chemo, and they gave him Viscous Lidocaine. He said it tasted awful, but really helped. It's a really thick syrup that coats your mouth and throat. God bless your MIL, best wishes to her! |
