My doctor does not undestand the thalassemia minor condition, where can i get some much needed advice?

As i stated in my last question i am really trying to understand this condition and what i can do to stop the dizziness that i keep getting, my doctor keeps saying i should take Iron tablets but i have read that it could have the oppisite effect and it will make me feel ill. I am looking for any advice or web-sites that can help me understand this condition. I only found out i had this condidtion about 4yrs ago, even though i had been to the doctors a number of times with the different symptoms and the doctor didnt notice i had thalassemia minor, it was when i had a minor operation and one of the consultants noticed it and when he told me i was surprised as after years my own doctor hadnt notied. Any help, advice or even just someone else that has this condition and has any advice would be welcome please.

You need to consult with a hemotologist. This is a doctor who specializes in blood diseases. Your local hospital website or insurance carrier should have a list of them available.

As for the dizziness, you may ask your doctor if there is a medication you can try to improve the dizziness. I know that Antivert works well for alot of people. Or it may be another medication you are on that is causing you to be dizzy. You really need to consult with your doctor.

Again, please make an appointment with a specialist & good luck.

Everything I've read on it states treatment with folic acid:
