About testicular cancer. Important!?

if u have the FOR SURE answers to my 2 questions, please tell me all that you can!!!!!

1.) i know testicular cancer IS CURABLE but "how" exactly do doctors treat it? what do you go threw during the curing process.

2.) i CAN still have kids if i have testicular cancer right?

does this hurt? (refering to my 1st question)

Like other cancers it can treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as the medical team deem appropriate for the individual's particular cancer.

I don't know a lot about testicular cancer, but my father's story may be of interest to you. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 29 and had the affected testicle removed and radiotherapy.

He went on to father three more children, lived a very active and healthy life and died aged 76 of something unrelated to cancer.

It is treated by removal of the affected testicle. It is called an orchiectomy. You may or may not need chemo therapy too.

You will still be able to have children.

Some time after surgery you can be fitted with a prosthetic testicle. It is a silicone ball matched to your other testicle and implanted in your scrotum.

edit: Well surgery is surgery. There will be some discomfort. They do have pain medication though.

Okay, these are both questions that you should be posing to your oncologist, but it seems that you're anxious, so I can get you started with a few things that will answer both of your questions above and many more...
I could give you a LOT of information right here, but honestly, you will learn so much more if you will visit a few of these resources and read, read, read...

There are endless resources on this subject, and if you just do a search in any search engine on testicular cancer, you will find many more sites than those listed above.

To quickly answer your second question, many cases of testicular cancer involve the surgical removal of only one testicle and you can still father children as long as you still have at least one testicle. If it turns out that both of your testicles will need to be removed, you may consider the option of having some of your sperm cryogenically frozen before having your orchiectomy (the surgery to remove your testicles). Sperm banking is very common for men who undergo treatment for testicular cancer.

My very best wishes to you... Take care of yourself, treat yourself well... May you be cured and on the road to recovery soon...

1. It depends on teh stage, could be chemo, radiation or surgical removal
2. Depends on treatment & effects of them, obviously no if removal of both testes
