Does anybody know how to get rid of a tension headache?

Last week i pulled my neck and ever since ive been in so much pain havent been able to sleep and ive got a megga tension headache, doesnt matter what i take it wont go away!!!!

There are several pressure points. Try grabbing the web between your thumb and index finger and squeeze the spot that hurts for about 30 seconds. Alternate hands.
Find the indent between your neck and shoulder (on the top) and put pressure there on both sides, holding for thirty seconds at a time.
There's an indent in your eyebrow above your pupil. Press on both of those at the same time.
The other point is at the back of your head where it meets your neck. You'll find an indent on each side. Press up an in and hold for thirty seconds.
Alternate sites. It's nice to have someone do it for you, but you can do these yourself.
Ever have someone give you a foot massage? It's a great tension reliever!
I get alot of headaches that don't go away with medication. Using these techniques usually helps me. Hope it helps you. Good luck.

where is your bong?

get some tiger balm and gently rub some on your neck and a tiny bit on your temples, take 2 extra strong paracetamol and lie in a darkened room

Drink plenty of water it always works for me !!

Get a hot patch to put over your neck-that will take care of the strain.
Then put ice on your forehead. that's how I get rid of mine!

I've found that gazing at a field (an area) of pale blue helps relieve tension. If you're experiencing insomnia a blak-lite bulb (regular screw-in type but of the blak-lite variety) helps me to sleep.

Sorry to hear about your bad headache, I can sympathise enormously.

Personally I've found:

Ibuprofen at night tend to help me sleep a little better

Aspirin and paracetamol have no effect whatsoever

Syndol are a very strong pain relief tablet only available from pharmacies --- they do tend to make you drowsy, but have a good pain killing effect

Soluble paracodol or cocodamol also seem to help me - i think they seem to act faster as they are in a drink form rather than tablet

It might be worth having a trip to see your GP to ask for advice as you may need something to ease your neck, which seems to be causing the headaches

I've found that my tension headaches sometimes can be put down to not drinking or eating enough - so drink lots of fluids, preferably water

Hope these help ease your pain

Stop taking pills to cover the symptoms and look for the cause. You say you "pulled your neck", it sounds like you need to see a chiropractor to re-align your neck. That should relieve the headaches. Other than that, the only real "cure" for a tension headache is to relax.

I'd see a doctor to ensure I didn't do some damage, given it's been a week of torture for you.

Now, I get colossal (doctors have been impressed with the amount of muscle tension) headaches, from my forehead to my neck and shoulders. In my case, it's being a worry-wart.

Cold packs may help--15 minutes on, 15 minutes off. In my case, cold makes it worse. I have these nifty microwave moist-heat pads (Google for "therabeads). I also brace my neck so my head doesn't roll around, and sleep as upright as possible in a chair. Hot showers also help. And a couple of ibuprofen or acetomenaphen tablets help, too.

You have my sympathy--I get them that last all day.

It sounds like your head pain is a result of you injuring your neck. this can happen. You may have trapped a nerve or possible jarred your neck muscle.
get some nurofen or voltorol down you (so long as you don't have stomach ulcers) and start pain relief.
You could also get some muscle rub and massage it into your neck.

If it continues then see your GP who may refer you for physio.

I suffered for over twenty years with a pain in the neck (then i divorced him!). Seriously though i really did as a result from car accident. Recently i paid a private physiotherapist and had some physio and some acupuncture and its gone- its wonderful- i suffered for years with those damn headaches and for a small fee i could have had it sorted. If you need instant relief i always use Radian B, syndol and 4head (you rub onto your head and it has menthol in it- but its good)- but of course thats very temporary- you need to deal with the pain itself. It might ease over a couple of weeks but if not consider the physio. Your GP should be able to recommend some but here in the UK waiting lists are lengthy. I paid 拢50 for an hour (Hampshire) but it might be cheaper elsewhere- worth every penny and more!
Libs.

try them balm sticks they like a pinkiller u rub into the skin.also pop back to drs sounds like you may have done some damage there

Get some ibrupofen muscle heat rub and ask someone to gently massage it into your neck to help alleviate some of the pain in your neck and also to reduce some of the inflammation. Then use a warm compress on your neck whilst you sit in a relaxing enviroment. Then when possible go to your gp to get a check over to make sure you're not seriously injured, he may be able to prescribe some muscle relaxants to help with the spasm in your neck.

I get tension headaches and migraines so I completely sympathize with you! Here are some things that work for me. The smell of lavender and the smell of peppermint help calm me down and ease the pain. I agree with the pressure points answer. The point between my thumb and finger was the only relief I got with a migraine that lasted way too long! But, here is another thing to try. Lay down on the floor and put your legs up on a chair so that the back of your leg from your knee to foot is on the seat of the chair. Then put your arms straight out on the floor. This might feel strange at first but it puts your neck and spine into the correct position and relieves tension in your neck and helps your head. You have to do it for several minutes for it to help. Hope you feel better!

Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

Pl take no tension, it will increase your problems.
Better try Yog.
Meditation will help you in all respects.
