What is a tension headache? What can be done for it?

I get headaches every two weeks. It starts in the back of my neck then goes to my forehead and lasts for 1 to 2 days. I think this is a tension headache but I am not sure. I don't know if it is and what should I do for this problem? Is there anyone with this experience -any health experts or people with this experience?

I get the same symptoms. You are getting stress headaches (aka tension headaches).

Here are some helpful ideas in dealing with them:

1. ICE PACKS. Nothing feels better than an ice pack on the back of your neck and on you eyes. It's best to lie down so that you can fully relax.

2. Reduce stress. When things start getting sticky, go for a walk or do another task for a few minutes to alleviate the stress.

3. Regular exercise. 20-30 minutes a day, 3-4 times a week.

4. Avoid caffeine. Believe it or not, this can make headaches worse! (This includes Excedrin which has a main ingredient of caffeine!)

5. Take bubble baths in the evening to chill out.

6. Make sure you are eating right. Take a multivitamin to ensure that you are getting what your body needs daily.

7. Splurge and get a full body massage. Not only does it rejuvenate, but it also melts away tension.

Hope this is of some help!

Try EFT you can get the free manual at: http://www.emofree.com/downloadeftmanual... It's very easy and effective. Drink more liquids especially gatorade when the headache first starts. Reduce stress in your life, get your eyes checked. Good Luck

Do you have aura, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity?
Do you have a running nose/eye?
These are questions that could help limit it down.
Lasting 1-2 days, with symptoms like aura leads more to migraine.
Sounds like you need to go in and get treated by a doc.
1-2 days every 2 weeks is way to often.

It sounds like it could be a tension headache or one due to stress. Does it coincide with anything in particular that is going on in your life? It could also be due to an allergy. I would suggest going to your doctor with the complaints so something serious can be ruled out. Then, you doctor can work with you to hopefully address what is causing the problem to make it stop, or, in the interim, prescribe something, even aspirin to help. Good luck!

You need to see a doctor who maybe can refer you to a
help and support group or to physio to teach you relaxation exercise. If that's not possible you need to stretch, get a Yoga stretching tape and do deep breathing exercise. You can take a extra strength Tylenol, lay down quietly and close your eyes while you put an icepack wrapped in a clean dishtowel on your forehead. Tylenol once in a while will not hurt you,
Good Luck

Just go on line, & type in tension headaches, & the answers are all there, & it will describe, remedies & descriptions, of what type of headaches your having.

Yes, it has all of the symptoms of a tension headache. Have someone massage your neck and shoulders and lie down in a dark, quiet room for awhile. I have migraine and cluster headaches that usually involve one side of the head and cause nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. These can actually go on for days. It's brutal!
