Reason for tendinitis in arm?

I went to the doctor and found that I've had tendinitis in my arm for a few months. It's getting worse and worse. The doctor did not really have a solution besides resting my arm, putting ice on my arm, and wearing a little cast because I'm allergic to advil, aleeve, etc. I have it on my left arm, which I write with, and its on the radius side of my arm.
I don't do any sports currently, and I am wondering if it is possible to get tendinitis from just writing in school and working as a cashier.
Even if it is possible to get it from writing, is it more rare? I only ask because whenever I look it up, I just seem to see the causes as something sports related.

Oh, I also play the flute, if that may also add to the factors?

Tendonitis means an inflamed tendon. That means you were overusing the muscle it connects to. Any highly repetitive motion involving some strength, and not enough rest can cause it.

Figure out what you are doing that either flexes the muscle or holds it tight for long periods. Then do it less or not at all so it can rest and heal.

A cool pack of frozen veggies will help when you can. Keep it warmer so it has more circulation the rest of the time..

Yes...it is possible to get tendonitis from repititious use of your arm/hand.

If you are typing, writing, doing anything that involves constant motion with your arm or hand it can aggravate the symptoms.

This is usually caused by repetative movements. Try holding your arms a different way when you are doing some of your activities. Otherwise there is really not a whole lot you can do but let it work itself out.
