Is Tendinitis of the wrist the same thing as a sprained wrist?

i have tendinitis in my right wrist. i was wondering if it was the same thing as a sprained wrist?

No. Tendinitis is when the tendon sheaths become swollen and inflamed, making movement painful and difficult. This is somestimes caused by overuse. Tendons connect bones to muscles.

A sprained wrist is caused by stretching the ligaments (not the tendons) of the wrist beyond their normal limits, due to injury. The ligaments are fibrous tissues that control the motion around a joint and help to stabilize it. Ligaments join bones to bones.

A sprained wrist will eventually work itself out and heal. The muscles and tendons and joints will settle back down.

Tendonitis is a more serious condition and may require a doctor's attention, therapy, medication. Find out all you can from the internet, library, and talking to nurses about what options are available. Seek the most conservative options first.

no

No, they are different

no/yes. They can both be due to overuse/misuse of the tendon in the wrist. A sprain is when the tendon has been stretched too far. Tendonitis is more of an inflammation of the tendon.

I don't think so, Tendinitis is an inflamation of the tendons. Sprains are usually caused by overextension or overstretching.

NO - a sprained wrist will go away. Tendinitis will come back whenever you aggravate your wrist/work it too hard. I've never had a sprain, but I have tendinitis in my ankle; whenever i run, it swells up. When it's inflamed, I can feel the tendon is hard and swollen.
