Can multivitamins keep you from absorbing other medications? |
I am taking mega doses of prednisone right now. I have a condition called 'temporal arteritis" which has left me with no vision in my left eye. The prednisone has so far kept the swelling down so that I have retained the vision in my right eye. I don't want to take anything that will interfere with the absorption. Appreciate any advice. My Dr. wasn't available today. The pharmacist is the person to speak to. you should be able to take moderate vitamins like the kind that offer 100% in every vitamin category...they can be found at walgreens...the thing is...I wouldn't advise the kind that give you 500% or even more in any vitamin category...also stay away from herbal vitamins...after all...vitamins are found in the food we eat...we don't stop eating because of that do we? ;)...my wife has a serious liver illness and her doc says its ok to take multiple vitamins...believe me she might trade what you have for her condition... yes and also the opposite, but in general should not interfer if you are a healthy person with no major health prolems. Mega doses of pred?! Hi there ! You can check out any medication on a medical website like WebMD. I do know that soem medicines and vitamins don't work well toghether. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist about your concerns. The pharmacist can tell you EXACTLY what you can and cannot take with what medication. Be prepared to tell the pharmacist exactly what is in your multivitamin; so have the bottle ready. I hope you get to feeling better soon, because prednisone has side effects of its own. |
