I am giving a speech on teenage drinking...what all should i try to cover..Helpp!? Well I remember the speech my parents gave me, it was very informative, very comforting and no lecturing or nagging, but i still went out that very same weekend and got drunk (which i probably wouldn't have if they didn't give me the "talk") but what would have prevented me from doing it was the video i seen in drivers ed, call the high school and they more than likely will provide you with some material to handle this situation well and to educate both you and your child. Your local BMV may have some as well, and if you have a local AA group contact them, they have wonderful materials (and videos) to teach your teen about it. but your teen probably already knows about it, maybe already tried it, and has an opinion on it already, find out what the opinions are before you decide on how to go about the "speech" (i am 22 and relate well to teens still cause I'm still young myself! i had my first drink at 15 in my own house and my parents never knew, and its probably going to be easier if your child has never seen you drink, or had 1 beer then drove somewhere...many parents do this and don't even realize they do) It鈥檚 not enough to tell your young teen that he or she should avoid alcohol鈥攜ou also need to help your child figure out how. im listing a few websites to help you with talking to your teen as well as information. hope it gets you started in the right direction. Drink driving, liver cancer, looking stupid and foolish when you drink too much, having regrets when you say something that 'slipped' out let alone throwing up in front of the peer group. Enjoy A drink but always be aware it can be addictive, it is not a crutch and things never look better the following morning. effects of alcohol on the human body driving accidents and deaths - bodily damage (liver, heart, etc.) - hangovers - loss of work and school winding up in an emergency room with alcohol poisoning after having wet and pooped your pants and having a nurse have to clean you all up with a bowl and sponge. happens ALL the time!!!! focus on the things they could lose, like their freedom, their health, their job, their family......many simple pleasures in life we take for granted that can be snuffed out in an instant becaue of booze and the behaviour that comes with it. ensure they know you're not saying to never have fun, but moderation and some planning ahead is key to making sure everyone has a good time and is home and alive and well the next day. Maybe you should also have a field trip to detox being responsible & the negative aspects of drinking. r there any positive aspects? especially cover the effects their drinking will have on those they know and don't know. i have never heard of any good resulting from a person who drinks, it's all been negative. ask why one would drink in the first place. to forget a terrible happening in one's life? to dull the pain? what ever the reason, offer alternatives to steer them in a positive direction. if they have a problem, it's easier to solve any problem sober. much better to solve a problem than to ignore the problem. drinking may only lead to more problems and nobody wants or needs that in their life. good luck. You should discuss peer pressure. the dangers of drinking games and alcohol poisoning. talk about drunk driving! that's huge. try to vind visual aides of mashed cars and the like. |
