Is Soy Healthy For A Teenage Male?

I am a 14 year old male, turning 15 in a few weeks. I am a big fan of soy milk and protien shakes but I have heard it contains estrogen and lowers tustosterone levels. So is it healthly for me to drink and intake soy? Will it have any bad effects on my growth? I run 2 miles a day and do some sit-ups incase that is of any signifigance.

You will have much less problem with hormones in soy than hormones in meat - they give all kinds of junk to meat animals to make them get huge rumps, etc. Eat all the soy you want - it's very good for you, but keep meat to a minimum - once a week, maybe.

uh no it doesn't matter

No, you should be fine. Just make sure that is not your only source of protein.

Soy does NOT contain any sort of female hormone! Hormones are produced by our bodies, not the food we eat.

However, studies show that soy does help regulate the female reproductive system. This doesn't mean that you can't drink it too! It helps everyone prevent osteoperosis and heart disease, so drink up!

There is a rumour that soy can turn a 15 year old male into a man.

But it's only a rumour.

HAHAHAHA!!!! YOU'RE GOING TO TURN INTO A GIRL!!!

I dunno, check it out online, I ain't no milk wiz.

sorry I just had to laugh... :D

There are two schools of thought, and much controversy. Some recent findings suggest it's very unhealty, and the guy on "Roex" always denounces it.

However, I'm not convinced that it's bad, because the Oriental people eat it and seem to be healthy.

I've heard the same about soy containing estrogen-like substances, so I wouldn't overdo it, but think about this--plenty of Asian men eat tofu all the time and they're okay I think a shake every other day would be fine.

(I'm no doctor, though. ) ;-)

I tried to find an article about this, but all I say was a small one on soy milk and infant boys. It did say it lowers testosterone levels, but it didnt say how much and what the harm was if any. Your best bet would be to get your mom to call your doctors office and get his/her opinion.

you're fine.

Ad some protein to those shakes.
