Are doctors now lazy and don't care about patients?

"Hello doctor, I've been having pain and discomfort in my entire body daily for about 5 years now and some days it gets so bad that I can't get out of bed. I have my "good" days but most of the time it's hard for me to function in daily life and I can't do all the things I want to do. I also get headaches, SEVERE period cramps, lightheadedness and fatigue. I get sharp pains in my stomach and back that sometimes bring me to my knees. I'm a pretty tough 22 year old, but have cried several times from the pain and feeling helpless. Also, over-the-counter meds like Tylenol and Midol don鈥檛 help me at all" - Berry

"Here's some Paxil." - Doc

"Hello doctor, I've had serious stomach problems for about 5 years including sharp pains, discomfort, frequent gas, diarrhea and constipation. I eat healthy most of the time and don't eat fast food. I think my stomach problems have resulted from my teenage partying phase where I drank and did drugs. I have quit these bad habits but have continued to have problems." - Berry

"Here's some Imodium AD.鈥?鈥?Doc

I feel these doctors don鈥檛 take me seriously and they just hand me a useless prescription without running tests, asking me questions or even giving advice about diet and exercise or what could be causing my problems at such a young age. Are my problems too complicated and they don鈥檛 want to deal with them? Do they think I鈥檓 lying or imagining it?

Where can I find good healthcare with a caring doctor who will take me seriously and actually try to help? In the meantime, I鈥檝e been self-medicating with Loritabs for over a year because it鈥檚 the only thing I鈥檝e found that has eased my pain and made it so I can function and have a normal life.

No doctors aren't lazy and most really do care. YOU NEED TO FIND THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOU!
I could almost guarantee that you have Fibromyalgia. I am a male almost twice your age and have fibro. diagnosed about 15 year ago. spend about 8 years prior bouncing from Doc to Doctor until I started my own research and read about this AWFUL disease. Try going to an Internist or Rhumetalogist, keep going til you find doc you are comfortable with. GIVE THEM AN INTERVIEW AT FIRST APPT. ask them questions, like do you have xperiece with fibro and treatment, will you LISTEN to me, etc.

CHECK this link for fibro info:

ALSO if you have been self medicating for a year with hydrocodone, you are most likely addicted to it physical, nothing wrong with that many or most chronic pain patients are, research that however, withdrawals are hell and tolerance to drug is inevitable and you will need to move up the opiate ladder over time. It is very unlikely at your young age a doctor will treat you long term with opiates. Right or wrong it's just the way it is. RESEARCH AND LEARN ALL YOU can, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, empower yourself to help yourself.
GOOD LUCK my friend, I have live every day as long as I can remember in pain and fatigue. But we can make things better for ourself.

Doctors learn more about pharmaceuticals than diagnosing in medical school. This is a fact.

Doctors are taught to not listen too much to patient complaints. This is a fact.

Doctors are taught to not listen to women more than men because they are "hysterical". This is a fact.

Doctors are told to get patients out of the office quickly. This is insurance/HMO policy and is also fact.

Doctors are told not to spend too much time with any one patient especially if they come in often about the same complaint. This is insurance at work again.

The best thing you can do is to become your own advocate. Learn everything you can about your problems or complaints, write them down, be concise about what and when they arise and expect clear answers. Don't take no for an answer no matter how they try to pawn you off and get rid of you. YOU know your own body better than any doctor on the planet EVER will. DON'T GIVE UP! Insist on some answers.

Doctors tried to tell me I was a hypochondriac so I diagnosed myself by looking into all my symptoms. Then I went back to the doctor demanded an referral to a specialist and DAMN if I wasn't right about the diagnosis that took them 6 years and several thousand dollars of tests to find. Trust your own judgment about your body and your health. If your doctor isn't listening to you FIRE HIM and find another. Remember they work for you! YOU are their employer.

u just have to find the right 1 believe me i spothise with u i have been thru this but self medcation is not the best way u may be masking ur symtoms but i understand why ur doing it where are u getting them?

MissWong is SO RIGHT! I spent 5 years in pain, and a year in pain bad enough that I was totally bedridden before a doctor actually listened to me and figured out my problem. Other docs told myself and my husband that I was just a drug-seeking addict. Turns out I have a pretty common but hard to diagnose condition that can only be treated with a total hysterectomy. I'm only 26. The doc that found the problem referred me to a pain clinic. I'm now in pain management, and have a whole new life free of pain. Be persistent. Advocate for yourself. Don't accept that's it's "all in your head". I was told all these things. But there was (and is) a concrete, visible reason for my pain. No doctor took the time to look closely enough before. Ask about pelvic congestion syndrome... look it up as well. You have some of the same symptoms I have.
