What are the causes of the bad nutrition on teens?

The causes of bad nutrition amongst teens is the lack of education and manipulative corporate advertising!

We are constantly bombarded with images and representations of people eating high saturated and low nutritional value foods. Television, movies, newspapers, music are all media outlets that sell these products to the public. In addition, these low nutritional foods are readily available in schools and are commonly accepted amongst peers and social groups.

I think teens need to really familiarize themselves with what they eat. They should learn the science behind food. It's unfortunate that I had to take a course in university to learn about World problems in nutrition, but at least I now have some idea of what is good and what is bad to eat, and what are the long and short term effects on my body. More government funding in the classrooms (and I don't advocate for more Canada food Guide sheets to be printed out because NOBODY reads those) for education towards students understanding of food and nutrition.

Bad nutrition for anyone can be caused by a number of different things. I would imagine that the biggest reason would be the carefree attitude that young be have because they haven't yet grasped the concept of how short life is and how you have to take care of your body.

In my opinion, eating outside home makes teens go to eat snacks and fast food, that is never healthy.

Otherwise, they might eat healthy and balanced, but they keep trying to lose weight just to look like those Teen Stars.

fast foods and sitting in front of the tv all day playing games instead of outside exercising

Lack of education. If rational, intelligent people understand what the positive advantages of good nutrition really are, they will be motivated to do it on their own and won't need to be lectured or forced.

there's a common eating disorder: anorexia nervosa. this is when one goes on intense diets and exercises to lose weight. but it gets to such a state that they think they're still too fat even when they're not. it's more to do with the individual's psychological view than just food.

it's girls who are usually affected. they see models and celebrities and think it's the only good look. they want to have that look.. and end up going too far and getting ill.

it's the image that celebrities give out that changes others' self-image. these days in society, those who are rich and famous are thought to be the top of the mountain. that's nice and all, but if they were all that great, couldnt they at least try to fix the problem they've caused?

anyway, people should really just strive to be healthy. looking good is just an extra to go with that-it's not the top priority. after all, beauty and looks - it's not worth dying for
