Another question on health for teens. Can you have high cholesterol and still be overweight?

I don't understand. Can you have high cholesterol and be overweight at the same time? and what if you're not at all blubbery? What can you do to bring the weight down other than the body fat? All the times I tried to loose weight, I see the fat burn away but not the weight. It's so confusing.:(

Well, yes. Being overweight goes with high cholesterol.

But not for teens--most teenagers do not have high cholesterol.

You are confusing ME. What are you talking about "What can you do to bring the weight down other than the body fat? All the times I tried to loose weight, I see the fat burn away but not the weight. It's so confusing."

Losing weight IS losing fat. Fat IS the weight. Good grief.

you can be one at a time or both but one does not nec preclude the other. There are plenty of slim people with high cholesterol too.

I have trouble understanding why you'd be worried about your weight as long as you looked good. You're probably gaining muscle and burning off body fat, but obviously muscle weighs more, so you still weigh about the same (or maybe even gained some weight).

And yes, you can have high cholesterol and be overweight.... that's usually the case...

High cholesterol can be caused by genetics as much as what you eat. If you have it, you need to talk with your doctor about what you should do.
Weight is just a number. The reason you can lose fat and not weight is because muscle is heavier. The denser your muscle, the more you will weigh. Don't worry about the number, just the way your clothes fit.

Many people with high cholesterol are overweight, but many are not. Also people with hereditary high cholesterol can have it even if they are very thin and fit. A lot of overweight people have perfectly normal cholesterol, but it is a general good idea to watch your weight, watch your diet and exercise. That will make you live longer and be sick less often no matter what. There's no reason heavy people can't exercise just like everybody else. They just have to pick an exercise that makes sense for them, like swimming, walking, aerobics or home exercise with videos (a lot of them are great).
