My question is on health for teens.?

Is it possible for teens to get a heart attack? Like those who are overweight, who aren't as active as athletes? I also don't understand why some teens like me are considered to be overweight but don't have that much fat to our bodies. Why is that?

As a teen you have a fast metabolism and are More active than adults. If you are overweight now your in BIG trouble later.

anyone can have a heart attack.

your not overweight then. You either have a lot of muscle or a
lot of fat to be overweight but in the case of muscle it is OK. Plus try going by your BMI it gives a decimal point on where you stand weight wise. Last, it can also depend on your bone density and your body shape

I'm 5'6 and 100 pounds! I feel so discusted

ANYONE can get a heart attack. The things that put you at risk are: being overweight, smoking, drinking excessively, and not excersizing enough. If heart attacks run in your family you are at risk.

You just have big bones or are muscly. People are stupid. Don't worry about it.

Yes it is possible, but not likely. It usually takes many years of being overweight before the heart finally fails.

Some teens are considered to be overweight when they are not because the BMI scale is not perfect.

Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger are considered "Obese" on the BMI scale.

It does not consider muscle mass, it assumes an average lean body weight determined by height. If you have a lot of muscle weight, or a really LARGE frame... you may have a completely healthy body fat percentage, but you will be considered overweight or obese on the BMI scale.

Anyone can have a heart attack. When I was in school, a guy on the basketball team had a heart attack during the game. You don;t have to be fat and lazy or out of shape or what ever to have a weak heart, but it WILL LEAD to a weak heart, among many other problems

yes, it is possible, but highly unlikely. society tells us that superskinny is normally, which is horrible. i'm 17, 5'8, and have never been, nor will i ever be, a stick. it's not in my genes, and i am not going to starve myself just because people think that is "normal". i'm proud to have a curvy body, and just because i have curves does not mean i am fat. don't listen to what society says. be happy about your body and be confident in yourself. who cares what other people say? love your body, and love yourself
