Why have so many teens got mental health problems nowadays? |
Is it because of chemicals in foods etc....? probably because they spend too much time on the computer instead of outside in the sunshine getting their serotonin boost! Admitting our problems has become more commonplace. as well as seeking professional help. it only seems like more of us have problems, when it's just that more of us will admit it and not try to hide them. Very good question, but it's not only teens with mental health problems these days. I believe that we don't get proper nutrition anymore. Chemicals I think so. i myself am a teen and i dnt think its the food im all organic so i dnt know if that ccan be a reason but i think its the people they get worse and worse and your just struggling to get out of that uninhabited blank world so you start to get all emotional and depressed and stuff i also blame it on the meat... its madcow disease i tell you!!! haha so it may be the food... who knows? Stress of being the best in school, and all extra curricular activities; peer pressure; or being an outsider because you are "different". they are learning about these mental problems in school and many of the symptoms of these problems are very similar to normal teenage feelings and emotions, but in to days world if there is a cure for it we use it even if they are not needed most say there parants......... hummmmm .............we do stay on the yahoo alot....hummmmm** I think it is just hormones. I think a lot of teens just go through phases of depression and anxiety because of their hormones. The only problem with that is that professionals may just think it is a phase and overlook the fact that there is a real problem. Still, that being said, I figure that out of the teens stating a mental health problem, only about 15% of them actually have a true problem that they will not just grow out of. i would say they are to lazy to move their a s s around ! to much spoiled from the parents! and the chemicals in fast food are making it not better! any sort of depression can be tide over by faith in GOD and sincere prayer. Could only be a thought- I'd say bad parenting, bad social enviroment, eating habits, and lack of excersise. because its hard growing up, more and more of young people are being judged, adults will say bin there done that people seem to forget that these people are not just growing up they are individuals, they are dealing with life situations on a day to day basis. I think everyone's responses so far are part of the "whole" answer. my take is that teachers/ parents/ psychologists are too quick to put teens on meds for things like ADD. Why not try different methods of teaching and relateing to them? I think that in these times, teens know a lot more. When I was in high school, 20 years ago, there was no internet, no immediate access to knowledge. These kids are on a completely different level than past generations. How can todays teens not feel "isolated" from adults when the adults are unable to relate to them? It's the stress in schools , the popular culture that Teens have always had mental health issues. We've been paying more attention to it in the past few decades. There are also a lot more medications, treatments and places where teens, or their parents can go for help. The chemicals in the food no doubt are bad, but as to them causing trouble with teenagers, I havent heard of any studies done on that particular area. Might be interesting however. We should all be aware of the chemicals in our food. |
