Teen jailed for TB - denied having disease , officials say? |
When doctors told Francisco Santos he had tuberculosis Friday, health officials said the Gwinnett County 17-year-old refused to believe it. His right to liberty is being interfered with. However if he does indeed have TB, by refusing treatment and by mingling with the public he is interfering with other people's right to life. He does have a right to due process including legal representation and having the matter reviewed by a judge. A judge has likely already reviewed the matter and signed an order to incarcerate. They did the right thing. Once he is no longer contagious he can be sent back to Mexico. |
