AS Teen and Fitness?

My 13 y/o brother is 40 lbs overwieght. He lost it all and then yo-yoed back up in 3-4 months. He also is a high-functioning autistic (aspergers actually for those who are informed) which makes it really hard to pry him away from his video games. He's a year round all-star athlete, his weight is just out of control! I'm looking for a way to motivate him to lose the weight again. But I want to find a way to get him interested in his health without huritng his self-esteem anymore than it has been already b/c of his differences socially.

Has anyone had a similar experience/ success story?

Also, is it bad to try and create intrinsic motivation by extrinsically motivating with material rewards?

Another important point. How do you instill cardio, or fitness in general, into an AS routine without disrupting him?

I'm no expert on AS, but it would seem the objective would be to change his obsession from video games to something else. Cross country running or track would be logical choices: Not much required in the way of social skills, and obsessive behaviour in these sports is almost required for success.

try this website which uses a points system as a reward and man it works! It's FREE and there is nothing wrong with rewarding people. If you join please tell them I referred you :Honeybea, and stop by and say 'hi' on my blog and let me know how you are doing.
thanks!

Eat only when hungry. Eat not more than three times a day unless u r diabetic. Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

um..., when ur brother lost his weight, how long did it take. the faster u lose weight, the faster it will come back to you. subj's answer is correct, and to ur brother, excersizing is a life long thing. once you stop, u get a lot of weight back. u dotn have to do eveything the same length of time or how much u do, but if u burn a few calories, ur muscle will take over your fat cells. if u stop, the fat cells take over your muscle. the reason it doesnt seem like your muscle are shrinking, is because, like i said, the fat cells take over your fat cells. every three days, u get back the fat. u have to either excersice every single day, or you have to keep a routine diet, or both.
