Hi I'm 5"4 and around 140 pounds.
Around 6 months ago I weighed around 110-125 pounds (I would lose and gain weight a lot and then lose and then gain again.)
My name is Catherine and I live in San Diego, CA and I'm 14 years old.
Let me first tell you about my health conditions:
Last year in may i had umbellical hernia surgery repair and then I just got back my hernia again this month...
I've been sick with mono twice in the past year, tonsillitus, the flu, etc. I also have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and when I was younger I was diagnosed with ADHD.
(I dont take pills for it tho)
I cant lift weights ever for the rest of my life because of my hernia, and I cant strain my newly formed hernia again so I cant do anything too crazy for a few months.
so tell me what should i do to loose weight??? Can I suggest swimming and walking. I'm sure you could manage a cupple of 5 pound weights just to get your arms toned. I've had that same umbellicus hernia operation and trying to loose weight after having a baby and here's what I did.
Get yourself a pedometer...they are cheap and fun to use.
Don't weigh yourself...this is idiocy. Muscle wieghs more than fat and as you tone, you build muscle and burn more fat however, for a period of time it can appear that you are gaining. You are but what the scale says shouldn't matter.
It sounds like your immune system is compromised so I would up your whole foods intake...
Vitamin C foods like citrus and tomatos
whole grain breads and cereals
whole fruit and steamed veggies
nuts and seeds
fish (tuna is high in protein)
good fat like avacados, bananas, real butter and 2% milk and white or hard cheeses - keep sour cream and yogurts low fat, cottage cheese low fat and use yellow cheese sparingly. Also, dressings if used sparingly aren't going to kill you. Enjoy that salad.
add beans to your diet and other catabolic foods - don't avoid potatos as long as they are baked or steamed in the micro wave - add salt pepper, butter and a little sour cream, maybe a little cheese and it makes a nice meal especially if you add brocolli and mushrooms to it.
When making salad try greener leaf lettuces and add bulk to the salad with chunks of chicken, sprouts, cukes and whatever other veggie you want. Just use the dressing as sparingly as possible or switch to a light olive oil based dressing.
Try drinking lightly sweetend tea instead of soda or juice drinks...
Lipton Ice teas or you can make this kind...
6 green tea bags
2 mint tea bags
Steep in heated water until cool - use a tea kettle and not the microwave
add a cup of raw sugar or splenda to taste. Really good.
Stay completely away from these items if possible -
white bread
pasta - unless its whole grain
sugar - try honey, splenda or raw sugar
processed food (frozen meals, cheeses, packaged food and anything with High Frutose Corn Syrup.
When walking, take your time and bring music with you...try taking the longest route possible to and from somewhere. Walk purposefully with a determined stride and not just the flopping of the feet everywhere..this is easier on the joints and forces you to use all the muscles of the legs.
Swimming is low impact and relaxing...you can do some aerobics while you are at it.
I was told by my doctor that the stomach wall needed to be strengthened and that abdominal excersize was recommended...I would ask again about what your doc suggests.
I always pick a day of the week when I can eat whatever I want and treat myself to something...within reason. Most of the time now that I've started eating this way..I don't even want the same old stuff I used to eat. Especially fast food and soda...I always feel sick after I eat that junk.
Good luck to you, Sweetie. Wow, recovering from all those illness must be tough! It's perfectly reasonable that you would gain weight. Here are my suggestions:
Watch what you eat. Try to eat healthy foods and not too many unhealthy ones. Also, no regular soda. That's just 200 extra calories and around 30 g of sugar that you could avoid or use instead to eat some of your favorite food. Drink lots of water too, as it is good for your metabolism.
And as for exercise, try doing some little things, like using the stairs instead of an elevator, or taking a stroll in the park. Maybe try some yoga, I don't think that would put too much stress on your hernia. You can do it for just 5 or 10 minutes at a time.
Don't forget, you're only a tiny bit overweight! If you don't have the energy to exercise, just make some changes to your diet. Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry. It is however to be noted that one cannot change the shape or size of different parts of the body. All you need is patience, consistency and determination. There are certain things people keep ignoring when they try to lose weight:
1) You need to change your lifestyle. People go on crash diets and lose some pounds, then they get back to their old eating habits, hence gaining more pounds, and the cycle repeats again. Junk food and soft drinks are evil, period. They are the main culprits for a big stomach.
2) Do cardio consistently at an intensity that totally wear you out. It makes you lose weight faster. Don't underestimate inconsistency, it's the main clause of failure for those flat-ab wannabes.
3) Don't rush weight loss. You can only lose 2.5lbs per week at MOST. Any more and you're losing muscle as well. Don't expect visible results in a week or two. They only start to show after a month or so. Do you really think you gain all those pounds of fats in just a few weeks? Then don't expect to shed them pretty soon. As long as you persevere, you'll be rewarded. I came across this great product for weight loss and it was excellent for me. Together with a good diet and exercise I am finally happy with my body and the way I look. You should check this product at
