Tachycardia?

i have tachycardia, and i was wondering if that affects my heart in a bad way, like does it stress it out to the point that i could die soon? also when i'm preagnent, will it affect me when i give birth?

Actually tachycardia simply means a heart rate greater than 100 beats per minute(bpm). A lot of people suffer from this condition. Stress of any sort can trigger an episode. My advice is to monitor your heart rate daily. I know that it is easy for some to check their pulse every other minute but please try to avoid doing this. It will not change the condition. It will only exacerbate the tachycardia. If you begin to feel faint or your pulse is really racing well over 100-120 bpm then see a doctor. This condition alone is extremely treatable. I would not be concerned at all about dying from this unless there are other health issues that you haven't addressed. Good luck and try not to worry.

tachycardia is of itself fairly benign, but, it can cause a great many problems in combination with other illnesses, like high blood pressure. If you become pregnant the tachycardia could be a serious problem if you develop pre-eclampsia. And, over time tachycardia can cause an enlarged heart, making it less efficient a pump and leading to things like congestive heart failure. I would suggest you talk to your doctor about it, find out why you are tachycardic and see if something can be done about it.

Not necessarily, but it can affect your heart. Have you had this checked out? If not do - straight away. Maybe something and nothing or may not.

I am 40 years-old and have had tachycardia since the age of 22. I developed it when I was going through a stressful time, but had numerous heart tests and my heart is as healthy as it should be, just fast. It scared me to death at first because it would go so fast it would vibrate me, but I take a little pill called Tenormin (50 mg.) once a day and I've never had the problem since. I've taken the pill for 18 years and my heart is still ticking. I don't think tachycardia is a serious heart illness, unless you have other health factors.

Get the doctor to let you wear a heart monitor. I wore one while my heart was racing (before the medication), and it didn't show any abnormalities. Good luck! It's scary, but it won't kill you.
