Sinus tachycardia...?

Sinus tachycardia..... serious or not? life threatening?

This is more commonly known as an overly fast heart rate (above 120 bpm at rest for a healthy person). S.T. can be caused by physical stressors such as illness or exercise. This is perfectly normal and should not be a concern, unless the rapid heart rate does not decrease to a normal resting rate.

No, it is a natural response by the heart when you are in a stressful or intense situation.

Since it is basically an "elevated heart rate", it can be a symptom of a life threatening condition if it occurs as the resting heart rate though.

If this condition persists it may cause other problems. Otherwise, it may just be something temporary that has been caused by stress, anxiety, potentially anemia or fever...

Depends on the cause. If it's a response to stimuli, like fear or pain, it's a normal response. If it's related to dehydration, it should clear up once the patient is well-hydrated. If it's due to a fever or infection, treating those causes should lower the heart rate.

If it's in response to a major problem, such as low cardiac output, anemia, CHF, hemorrhage, extensive heart muscle damage associated with a reduction in cardiac output and pulmonary embolism, then it's the sign of something much more serious.

Overall, though, sinus tachycardia is a warning of something going on with the body, and while the tachycardia itself won't kill a relatively healthy person, the underlying cause of it may.

Not really unless it is in the presence of an underlying cardiovascular condition.

At least it's not V-Fib! hahaha
