Can you have a baby when you have Tachycardia?

My husband and I have been talking about having a baby for sometime now and we are really, really want to. However, I have tachycardia (a racing heart) and was wondering if anyone has heard of mothers who are giving birth have had complications or died from the rapid increase in heart rate.
We are going to speak with a doctor soon, but I was just wondering if anyone has had or known of any real life experiences.
So does anyone know if it is ok to have a baby when you have tachycardia?

~Dd

wow that is crazy!! iam 8 months pregnant and have svt as well. I was on topril the first 6 weeks of my pregnancy and am know having to get a sonogram once a month to check on the babies heart. He is fine though so far really healthy. But with me i was really scared too. I have had one major attack during my pregnancy that sent me to the er it got up to about 230 beats per minute. I was scared but it slowed down with no medical help. Every morning is scary cause i wake up kinda exhausted and a fast rate, i have alot of heart flutters and palpitations because the heart works so hard while being pregnant. I am really scared coming so close to my due date sept 13 because of the same reasons. My doctor said everything will be fine as did my cardiologist. I have to be careful as of bending over to prevent the svt and moving to quick or walking to much. It mostly depends on you i guess but i will tell you that i ahve had svt for years and was misdiagnosed as "panick attacks" and had a delivery in 2003 and everything was fine. I had medication and was in hard labor for 28 hours. I hope this helps to comfortyou. It will be scary because for us there is not a lot of meds you can take so dealing and coping with it is kinda scary not relying on our meds to do the work..As of the baby he will be fine and if any complications do happen there are meds for it. Delivery is the scariest though, iam horrified of what might happen, straining the heart or something but i think that if they noticed anything they would do a c-section which i think is safe. But like i said both my doctors gave me the okay and am not at a high risk.Remember those things they teach you to stop the attack? Like holding your breath real hard or rubbing the side of your neck, well when i went to the er they told me if it happens again to try all of that and if nothing else just return!! I really hope you like my whole story and i hope it helps you make a good decision and stop all meds before because it can be really dangerous, for now that is what i got for you, next step get an okay with your doctor. Best of wishes to you and e-mail me if you would like it would be nice to know what they say to you....

It depends on the type of tachycardia. If you have simple sinusal tachycardia on stress, there is probably no problem. But if you have an important Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome or some coronary malformation, then that could be more dangerous. But in any case, you can have a baby. You'll just need some more monitoring during the pregnancy and during the labor. Before talking to the doctor, be sure he has all the data from your diagnosis of tachycardia (EKG, Holter, cardiac echography). The best doctor who could answer your question you should be a cardiologist with all the data about your case.

It depends on the cause of the tachycardia. Talk to your doctor about it. If you go ahead, you will likely be considered as "high risk" and will need to be considered by hospitals dealing in your form of risk.
