Can I Fly With Tachycardia?

i am due to fly from england to USA in 6 weeks, but i have a tachycardia of 108 at rest. i am 19, and in fairly good health except for having vaso depressor vagal syncope. will i be safe to fly?

You have to ask your doctor this question.

Call me old fashioned, but that's the type of question I'd ask my doctor instead of the moronic rabble on here.

I have vaso vagal syncopy too (and mitral valve prolapse)... It's never stopped me from flying.

But you need to ask your cardiologist, who knows more about your medical history and medications than we do.

Heart rhythm abnormalities are potentially dangerous (deadly) things. Seek the advice of a cardiologist not a bunch of yahoos.

Only your doctor can tell you this. Your airline might be more interested in the syncope though as if you pass out during the flight they will get really worried and you wouldn't want to cause a divert would you.

Probably. Airplanes fly at a cabin pressure altitude of about 7,000 feet. If you can stand this altitude, you're good to go.

May I suggest the medical expert who diagnosed the vaso depressor vagal syndrome, would be the best person to answer this type of question as he/she knows your history and knows what medications you are currently taking.
Make sure you take out medical insurance before you go as health care in USA is very expensive.

Registered Nurse: This is a strange way to deal with this and clearly if you have concerns you should consult your Dr. Use of the term 'vaso-depressor' would suggest, as another Answerer has already indicated, that you have a primary heart condition connected to poor cardiac output and (at 19? - and 'in good health' ?!) - have an arrhythmia or valve problem (though there are many possibilities).
It isn't the syncope that's the issue, but rather the status of your heart - and only your Dr knows that. But flying is stressful, (for some, frightening), and the forced immobility on a plane does have an effect. Get advice from your primary care doctor.
