Quick question about tb test?

i just got a tb test done to make sure i don't have it. What exactly will the shot area look like if i do have tb? and what will the shot area look like if i don't have tb?

thanks

The TB skin test, or manteux will turn red and a welt will develop if you are positive. If you are negative there will be no sign at all. A positive TB skin test doesn't mean you have TB. It just means you have been exposed to it.

don't stress -it will be read in a few hours.

If positive, the injection area will be hard, red and larger than a pencil eraser end.

If negative, there may or may not be a small lump, usually not much redness left and it will be a small mark or nothing at all. Some people do have small areas of irratation but it really is the size and intensness of the site that is considered.

A positive test will mean you need to have the lung xray to rule out a false positive or to see how far the illness has progressed.

Make sure you return to the nurse/lab who gave it on the exact date they told you or you have to go through it again if you miss the test reading 'window'.
