Syphilis question...?

My boyfriend slept with a female before him and I hooked up and a week later he found out that chick had syphilis. He went to the doctor and he said the doctor told him he has dormit syphilis. He said the doctor told him that he cant pass it on. The test was not positive and the doctor said he probably wont ever really "have" syphilis. Anyone heard of this or have this? Thanks.

His test was negative when he got it done. The doctor said it would be dormit if he had it and could not pass it on.

yikes, I'd get tested if I were you, syphilis is deadly if not treated!

No, I don't get that...you either have it or you don't!
There is a form of "latent" syphilis, also referred to as dormant, but it is still an infection...it just means he has no symptoms. He still needs treatment and you need to get tested!

Syphilis occurs in three stages: primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary syphilis is the initial infection. It often appears as a single, non-painful ulcer or sore on the genitals. Secondary syphilis may appear weeks later with a variety of symptoms, including rashes, wart-like areas, swollen lymph nodes and hair loss.

For both primary and secondary syphilis, symptoms can disappear without treatment. It is important to note, however, that people are still infected and can transmit the disease at this time. Not every person at these stages of infection progress to the tertiary stage. After the secondary stage, syphilis enters a latent period, which may last for years or decades. In addition, treatment at the primary or secondary stage of infection prevents the progression of the disease.

nope...it sounds kind of scary. If I were you I would go get checked out for myself....I would think they would still give him meds to get rid of it...go get checked. Don't take any chances.

P.S....your obviously worried so why dont you go get checked...nobody on here knows for sure....go get checked...and go to a different doc

I don't believe that! Syphilis is highly contagious. Please ask your primary care physician or OB/GYN.Best to you! ;-)=

Your boyfriend is lying to you about what the Dr said to him. Dormant Syphilis is just the first stage of syphilis. It is treatable. If left untreated it will advance. If he didnt take massive amounts of anti-biotics, he CAN pass it on.

Interesting fact. In this country 1 in 4 people have an STD that cant be cured and 80% of those people dont know they have it. Think about that next time you have sex with him or anyone else.

I'm confused. "Dormant" syphilis (also known as latent) means that the person doesn't have symptoms, but they do test positive for the bacteria. It may or may not progress to death. He wouldn't be contagious in the late latent stage, but my confusion is in this: why would the doctor say he is latent or dormant if he tested negative? He needs to see another doctor and get a penicillin injection, and YOU need to be tested, just in case.

Don't worry if you used protection. If not,get to the clinic. There is some double talking going on with that Dr. or your boyfriend.See your own Dr. for your own answer.Just thank God for condoms and peace of mind....

What is it with the thumbs down?. Hey .... whoever is doing the dumbs down ..That is VERY uncool!

that sound fishy tell your boy friend to go take care of his syphilis. Don't let him pass it on to you there is no such thing as dormant and not really have is either you have or you don't have log on to syphillis@webmd.net or webmd.net and get the required information you need

Hmmm... sounds like fibs to me. I don't think he went to the Dr.

Syphilis is really easy to treat in the first stages.

But I would not trust a guy who can't get even his facts straight...
