Syphilis and kissing?

Many people think that because mouth can develop open sores, syphilis can spred through kissing. But CDC website does not mention kissing. For bacteria to pass through by kissing the bacteria must be able to attack the mouth of a healthy person. Does that happen. Can anybody show me a link wwhere kissing is clearly mentioned as a cause?

Look dear,
YES,syphilis can be transmitted through kissing.
The treponema pallidum spirochetes can penetrate mucous membrane& infection can be transmitted through contact with open lesion of infected persons.
And just think that apparently healthy skin & mucous membrane may have minute abrasions & lesions that can allow entry of organisms requiring abrasions, but spirochetes of syphilis have motile cilia & can penetrate intact surfaces as I mentioned.
Other modes of transmission are:
-sexual contact:the major mode of infection.
infection of suckling baby from infected wet nurse.
-infection of wet -nurse from a baby having congenital syphilis.
-Potential risk of proffesional infection of medical & paramedical personnel on handling a case.
2-congenital infection :transplacental, starting from 4th month of pregnancy.
3-Exposure to infected blood of a case.
4-Contaminated article & fomites:are potentially infectious ,when used in common though their role is minor,if any.
I'm in faculty of medicine & I've studied that so many times.
I hope I could help.

Kissing cannot be cause...

Yes, if it is oral sex. Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum, which penetrates broken skin or mucous membranes. The most common symptoms include skin rash which can be varied in appearance, yet frequently involves the palms and soles, in addition to lesions in the mouth, vagina, penis (mucous patches), swollen lymph nodes, and fever. This stage is the most contagious stage of syphilis.
Please see the webpages for more details and images on Syphilis.

I found this at thebody.com, and I think it answers your question. In a nutshell- could you get syphilis from kissing? Yes, if you were kissing someone's primary syphilitic chancre, or sore. But you would see it before you put it into your mouth- and it would be highly unlikely that you would then engage in kissing:

There are no estimated risk statistics for the risk of acquiring syphilis from French kissing. Likewise for other STDs.

Can it happen? Sure. If someone has an active cold sore, he or she could transmit herpes to his or partner with a kiss. Or if someone had an active syphilitic chancre, likewise transmission could occur with a kiss. However, I really doubt you would be kissing someone visible lesions, right? Consequently, I believe you are indeed being overly paranoid. You don't need statistical percentages to keep you safe.
