I heard you get syphilis from kissing? Is this really true? Do you know anyone that got syphilis from kissing?

Someone told me that you can get syphilis from kissing? but people kiss like all the time if this was true syphilis would be everywhere! help me out here...

Syph is spread by skin contact. The bacteria that cause syph are secreted through painless sores called chancres. Though these sores can be pretty nasty to look at, they can go unnoticed because you won't feel them.

Suppose you had a syph chancre on your mouth and mistook it for a cold sore. Then you kissed someone. The bacteria from the chancre could get passed to your partner during the kiss (because of the friction between your faces). That would give them syphilis.

Is this common? NO. It's exceedingly rare (probably because it is kinda hard to NOT see a chancre on your face). But it can happen, and I am sure it has happened.

No fluid exchange is needed to spread syphilis. And syphilis chancres can occur on any surface of the body. They crop up at the site of infection (wherever the bacteria went in, the chancre shows up).

And even though it was a scourge back in the old days, syphilis is making a comeback. We were SO CLOSE to eradicating it, but a revivaly of promiscuity and unsafe sexual habits have led to a new rise in syphilis infections.

Only if you're from the 1950's

No. You can't. Go to www.webmd.com and look it up and all the other STDs and how to avoid them. You really should look at this is you don't know how you can catch things...

hello, syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease so u can't get it from kissing.

I knowq there are types of Hepititis you can get from kissing and other STDs as well but I would not doubt syphilis. "Scare Face" Al Capone caught Syphilis and it killed him. I think his infection was through his mouth too.

You can transmit syphilis from genitals to the mouth or eyes during sex. You then kiss the third person at your party, and bingo. You get syphilis from kissing. Rare? Certainly, but possible. Sexually transmitted diseases are frequently passed orally. Herpes is a biggy. The HIV virus has been passed that way as well.

Normally, you don't get STD's from kissing, but please be aware, anything is possible.

no only from s.i.
