i have a psyhologist and psychitrist

Sorry, but if seven different doctors diagnose the same thing, that's what you have. Body/facial dismorphia is a psychological condition. You need a psychiatrist, not a plastic surgeon.

if 7 doctors refuse to give u surgery dont you think they might be right?

the next Doctor you should see is a psychiatrist you have a problem.....

if only Michael Jacksons Doctor was as sensible...

Get your GP to refer you to a psychiatrist and have it proved once and for all, but be prepared you may not like the answer

See the below.....

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a mental disorder that involves a distorted body image. It is generally diagnosed in those who are extremely critical of their physique or self-image, despite the fact there may be no noticeable disfigurement or defect.

Most people wish they could change or improve some aspect of their physical appearance, but people suffering from BDD, generally considered of normal appearance, believe that they are so unspeakably hideous that they are unable to interact with others or function normally for fear of ridicule and humiliation at their appearance. They tend to be very secretive and reluctant to seek help because they are afraid others will think them vain or they may feel too embarrassed to do so.

Ironically, BDD is often misunderstood as a vanity driven obsession, whereas it is quite the opposite; people with BDD believe themselves to be irrevocably ugly or defective.

I'm sorry you feel so bad. Maybe you should get your doctor to refer you for counselling? If you really don't have body dysmorphia then the counsellor could maybe support you by telling your doctor this. If you are suffering from body dysmorphia then counselling would help.
I'm sure the doctors are just concerned for you even if at this moment it doesn't feel like it. They just don't want you to do something you may regret or that you find doesn't really make you feel any better about how you look. Good Luck

Sometimes the insurance will only cover it if it causes pain.

Or else they just see it as cosmetic surgery.

The only way is for you to go to a very understanding psychiatrist and have him evaluate you. I had to do this to get a referal to a fourth dermatologist after being accused of being a hypochondriac. If it wasn't for the psychiatrist siding with me, my skin condition would never have been treated. Suergeons are not psychiatrists and are not qualified to give you a diagnoses of body dysmorphia syndrome. Only a psychiatrist can give you this diagnoses. If two psychiatrists diagnose you with this, accept it and get treatment.

Hello again.Gen/Kathy.ok if you are so absolutely sure that you are disfigured, then you need to prove this to the doctors. Also you will have to prove that it is disrupting your life and making you so upset that you cannot function normally in your everyday life ,that you need surgery. You have to work out exactly what part of your face needs changing IE.do your eyes need to be opened so they look wider, do your cheeks need filling and lifting ,does your nose need straightening, and tell them how much better mentally you will feel when this is done. The only other alternative is to save up and get it done privately, but this will mean you having to get a job and this in turn will mean you having to face other people as you are now.

I am in no way discrediting what the doctors have told you, but you should remember that it is your choice.

I agree with others who have posted here that seeing a psychiatrist would be very beneficial. (everyone can benefit from one no matter what problems they have).

Having interned with a plastic surgeon, I wouldn't say I am "pro plastic surgery" but I do not see it in the same evil light as many seem to. Plastic surgery can be a great thing, but there are dangers! health risks aside, changing your body is a big deal, and altering something like your face is (in my opinion) the biggest change you can make. You are recognized and remembered for your face, it is, in essence, a core piece of your identity.

please keep that in mind.

on the flip side, many people find great happiness in seeing a plastic surgeon and getting work done. You too can find this contentment, but the key is you have to want the change for the right reasons.

This is why seeing a psychiatrist and discussing such subjects will be a great benefit to your decision and happiness.

As far as I know you don't need a doctor's referral to have reconstructive surgery done. All you need is a legitimate surgeon, and approval from that surgeon after a few meetings with him.

If you decide to go ahead with the surgery, please make sure you select your surgeon based on his reputation, not on price. This is one last key factor.

Hope some of that helped.
