Vasovagal syncope(fainting)?

I woke up to an episode of vasovagal syncope. Is this normal? Can sleeping be a trigger?

i am positive i have it...and i woke up to the symptoms warning signs...like i was sleeping and a feeling of nausea (a warning sign) woke me up, and i soon as i got up i fainted

Vasovagal syncope is the result of an exaggerated response by the nervous system to stimuli, (a confrontation, the sight of blood etc.).

When this is is triggered, your heart rate and blood pressure drop leading to loss of consciousness.

If you experienced it after waking, its likely it was caused by distress as a result nightmares etc.

There is nothing to worry about, but if it reoccurs, see your doctor for a check-up as it could mean that there's an underlying medical problem.

Syncope is related to blood pressure and sleeping is not a trigger. If it is happening often you should seek help in controlling it from your doctor. There are medications on the market that can help control it.

woke up to it? like when you were laying down? are you sure that that's what it is. i didn't really think it was possible to faint while laying down. people usually get syncopal episodes in order to but their brain at the level of their heart to increase blood flow to the brain. it could have some other cause, but that doesn't sound like vasovagal syncope to me.

triggers of vasovagal are usually a shock to the system, usually emotional. low blood pressure, getting up too fast, etc.

Its extremely unusual to faint when you are waking up, unless you sat up or stood quickly. Sitting up quickly or jumping out of bed immediately after waking can cause a person to faint because the pulse rate and muscle tissues in the veins have not had enough time to get into action, and the blood ends up draining out of your head and pooling in your feet or abdomen for a few seconds. If this happened for no apparent reason and it happens again, then its time to see a doctor.
