Syncope and Reflex Anoxic Seizures in children?

My youngest daughter (just turned 10 yrs.) I believe may have RAS (Reflex Anoxic Seizures). A year ago, she had a nail infection & doctor put her on some new antibiotics to treat the infection. The doctor instructed me to drain the nail infection with a clean sewing needle to relieve pressure. The next morning I was draining the infection & she then feel backwards, her eyes rolled back into her head and her body arched & started jerking as if she was having a seizure. We rushed her to the hospital & the doctors informed me that she didn't have a seizure, just a case of syncope. Never happened again until last night when we went to get her ears pierced. She claimed she wasn't scared at all & was excited to get her ears pierced. Seconds after the ear piercing the same thing happened - eyes rolled back into her head, back arched & start seizing. Within seconds she is fine but nauseous & very tired. She doesn't remember any of it at all. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Sure ZH there's SOMETIMES nothing wrong with fainting but this is not CLASSIC fainting. I've fainted before and seen others faint, this is more of a seizure. You are quite an ignorant A**hole. If you have nothing that may help why bother posting an answer at all you dumba$$.

What you are describing sounds like a classic case of reflex anoxic seizures. It is brought on as a result of a sudden shock, sudden pain or as a result of a stimuli such as blood. My daughter is 6 and has had 20+ since she was 3. It is because of an over sensitive vagus nerve in the brain which sends a message to the heart to tell it to stop. The heart stops for between a few seconds up to a minute. The person goes a white/ grey colour, eyes roll, back arches, sometimes the odd jerk, they lose consciousness for a few seconds or up to a minute. The brain sends a message to the heart to tell it to stop beating again and the person comes round. More info can be found on www.stars.org.uk (click on reflex anoxic seizures)

find a serious medical issue to post. Theres nothing wrong with fainting. Take a deep breath and wait for your kid to wake up. People have this all the time most people dont get too worked up about it though.

Ok, my 3 year old daughter has seizures and what you described was a seizure. My daughter does the exact same thing. There is no way a Dr. can say a person DID NOT have a seizure without doing an EEG. You need to get her to a neurologist and INSIST on an EEG, preferrably a 24 hr video EEG. My daughter's seizures have been brought on by significant pain, ie ear infection (when there was no fever). BTW, after a seizure my daughter gets extremely tired because her muscles got a major workout. That Dr. you saw is an idiot, and so is that moron who posted before me. And seizures are VERY serious! If they go on for more than a few minutes they could be life threatening. She needs to be on seizure meds!
