Swollen Glands in Neck?

I've had a swollen gland in my neck since July. I went to the doctor a few times and she thought it was allergy related. well finally last month they wanted to run a CT scan on it. It came back as over 2 cm plus other enlarged lymph nodes in my neck. However, the following day I went to see a general surgeon about a possible biopsy, and he couldnt feel the other glands in my neck and the gland that was over 2 cm had shrunk and in his own words he said it wasnt " very impressive" of a gland. He rescheduled me for next Monday. That gland has actually almost completely disappeared after 6-7 months, and I think thats a good sign because I don't believe cancer can shrink on its own, but I can still feel other small lymph nodes in my neck, and Im still worried. Like I said this all dates back to July if I had cancer would I be showing signs by now? I haven't been sick at all other than one cold. My friends think I'm over-reacting and believe I'm fine. Im 21 years old, and just looking 4 help

I've had blood work done in september, and I had blood work done in Jan. The blood work in jan was to check chlosterol levels and stuff like that, but wouldn't they have found it in the blood then. I haven't heard anything negative other than the CT results, but like I said the general surgeon who was to do the biopsy said he couldn't that the gland wasnt even big enough. Is it a good sign that one gland that was pretty big at one time has now practically disappeared?

get some blood work done to rule anything out, but I think you're fine. The same thing happened to me. Your lymph nodes are just your body's way of fighting off infection and filtering toxins. Sometimes your body gets so built up with toxins, your lymph nodes swell and stay swollen for long periods of time. Try a detox diet for a week or so to see if that helps, but I would still suggest bloodwork just to be sure.

Make sure to get a second opinion. Do you have any history of lymphoma in your family? My husband just went through something like this. He has had surgery and he needs to have CAT scans every 6 months now. I would make sure to get a second opinion! Please.

I would ask for a blood workup. Not trying to scare you, but your lympy nodes do not swell up because of nothing. Then when the tests come back, they perhaps will be able to determine if this is an ongoing infection by the blood count. A lot can be determined by a blood count. Good luck.

I would think the decreasing of size of the lymph node would be a good sign.

You may just have an extended sinus infection. I used to get ones that would last that long. I recently found a solution that has helped alot. I use Simply Saline to clean out my sinus cavities and now my glands are normal again! You can get it at Walmart and it's better than the other brands because it doesn't have extra stuff like preservatives in it that may cause you side effects. Hope it helps you like it did me. Doesn't sound like cancer though, if it decreases in size.

Scar tissue is what you might be feeling. After lymph nodes swell really big, scar tissue will be left over that you will feel forever, shouldn't be bothersome.

FYI, my 9 month old son had swollen glands in his neck, thought it was just lymph node, we did an ultrasound but came back as not a lymph node, then we went to see an ENT, he wanted to operate, it was an infected lymph node. The infection was MRSA Staph. They gave him IV meds for 5 days and sent him home with more meds. He's fine now but still can feel pea sized lymph scaring.

Ive had loadsa swollen lymph nodes in my neckl for about 4 years! they are always there, i found out it was coz i have HIV!! That is one of the biggest tell tale signs as they swell up when your body is fighting attack, thats why mine are always there!! You need to get blood tests done to see if your immune system is functioning properly, might just be a viral infection!

Hey man, it's cool you care about yourself enough to not say "whatever". Ask your doctor for a Thyroid test, on both sides of your neck, there is a thyroid that regulates your metabolism. i say this because my sister has graves disease, an overactive thyroid. just another thing to check. See more than one doctor because everyone practices differently with a mixture of various rhetoric and knowledge. Good luck bro.

STOP THE INTAKE of ALCOHOL

If the gland was big and now is not big ...I would venture to say that is not cancer....it grows itself...not shrinks itself..
