Swimmer's Ear pain!!! HELP!?!?

I have had Swimmer's Ear (an ear infection) for the past 2 days, and my ear is SOOOO sore! I am currently taking Advil and Tylenol every 4-6 hours (as directed), but my ear still hurts really bad...any suggestions of things I can do to relieve at least some of the pain? And also, I don't want anyone telling me that "my condition may be serious and I should go to the hospital right away"; this type of pain is normal for Swimmer's Ear, and I know that because 1) I've had it MANY times before, and 2) my dad is a doctor and has been for many years, so he knows what he is talking about when he says that I do not need to go to the hospital. He's been taking care of me just fine; I have special drops put in my ear about 4 times a day. So don't bother telling me that I need to see a doctor ASAP.
Serious answers only please.
Thank you for your answers in advance : )

Always after swimming rinse your ear out with alcohol. Trust me if you do this you will never have swimmers ear again. Use Hydroproxide and rinse your ear out.

Flush it with peroxide for real

try putting a couple of drops os rubbing alcohol in the ear, this will dry up any water that is in there.

Id suggest putting rubbing alcohol in your ear with a cotton ball. The alcohol kills the infection and the cotton ball helps hold heat in which helped make me feel better

So why are you asking us..your doc has already filled you in.

this recently just happened to me. i went to a doctor and they took out more of it and my ear felt much better! it cost about 20$ but trust me it felt much better afterwards. plus he takes out wax and you can hear better [= so it benifits both ways.

if you dont feel like doing that you should try hopping up and down on one foot with your head sideways, that also somewhat helps.

If your dad is a doctor, ask him...

My father always put a little rubbing alcohol in my ears after swimming, it helped I never went to a doctor for it.

If your father is a doctor why on earth are you asking us?

i hope this helps!!!!

* If you are quite sure that you do not have a ruptured eardrum:
o Gently rinse the ear using a bulb syringe and warm saline solution or a half-and-half solution of white vinegar and warm water. Make sure the flushing solution is body temperature. Inserting cool or hot fluids in the ear may cause dizziness.
o Avoid getting any more water in your ear until the irritation clears up. Cotton coated with petroleum jelly can be used as an earplug. Do not use plastic earplugs.
* If your ear is itchy, try nonprescription swimmer's eardrops, such as Star-Otic or Swim-Ear. Use them before and after swimming or getting your ears wet.
* To ease ear pain, apply a warm washcloth or a heating pad set on low. There may be some drainage when the heat melts earwax. For more information about earwax removal, see the topic Earwax.
o Do not use a heating pad when you are in bed. You may fall asleep and burn yourself.
o Do not use a heating pad on a child.
* Do not use ear candles. They have no proven benefit in the removal of earwax or other objects in the ear and can cause serious injury.

My daughter is suffering from that now as well. She is using the drops. I also saw a segment on tv awhile ago, that gave suggestions of how to possibly prevent the swimmers ear. Number one of course was ear plugs. However, they suggested when getting out of the water always, turn your head to the side and clap your hand over the ear to help drain any water that may be still in it, then take a towel and use the tip of it and stick it in your ear to dry and catch any water as well. My daughter lays her head down on a pillow on the side that is hurting. I know its painful, and I feel for you, as I do her. She does find a little relief with it. The drops should help you. I hope you find relief soon. All the best.

Your in good hands. Your Dad can ease the pain, if he wants too. However, swimmer's ear is caused by improper hygene, primarily due to swimming and getting water in your ear. I think your Dad is wanting to impress on you the need to dry your ears and treating them after swimming.

well you should see a doctor
i had the same problem i went swimming alot i had so much water in my ears i never rang out my ears after swimming so i saw an ear doctor cause i had hearing problems i had to go see a hearing doctor I AM 12 I SHOULDNT BE SEEING A HEARING DOCTOR TILL IM 80 YEARS OLD but i had to go threw the whole process and then i had to go into surgery i couldn't eat anything 12 hours before my surgery so i went into surgery they put a gas mask on me i fell asleep a couple seconds later and they had placed a tube in my which fell out a year later but then i woke up to find blood on my pillow but they offered my a Popsicle to eat i dint know why but after that i ate so much but after the surgery i still had to visit the hearing cent re but that's all over now but now i make sure i ring out my ears yep i also i got an ear infection it killed my ears i didn't go to the doctor but my mom bought me some medication in the drug store and it didn't work i had a wax build up until some wax fell out of my ears i mean it was huge but the infection went away in a week my ears are fine now

You say that your " Dad is a DOCTOR & has been a doctor for many years "?? &" He told you that you don't have to go to the hospital "? Yet your doctor father can't advise you what to do with your pain !! He must be A Very Stupid Doctor & A Father !!
