Swimmers Ear Pains.?

Over the three day weekend, I was involved in much swimming. When I got back from my hotel, I started having severe pain in my left ear. My brother has the same in his right, though not as bad. We went to the doctor, and he diagnosed it as Swimmer's Ear. He told us to take an ibuprofen (motrin) and gave us a prescription for some ear drops called Floxin. I was told to take 3 drops in the affected ear, one time a day, for 5 to 6 days.

He told me this was supposed to lessen the pain, yet it hasn't helped at all. My ear has only gotten worse in the past two days.

What can I do to eleminate the severe pain? Also, is there another way to cure it that I could talk to my doctor about?

Thanks everyone (in severe pain now :C)

Some years ago my daughter was on a swim team and had the same problem. She was in so much pain one night that a doctor actually came to our home. He was an ear specialist and cleaned her ear, put some meds in and then advised me to take her to a specialist to have her ear cleaned out. He also gave me the best advice. He had been the ear doctor for the Olympic Swimming team from Mexico and he told me to use equal amount of white vinegar and alcohol, put in the ear with a ear dropper before she went in the water and then again when she came out would prevent any more fungus ear infections. I have shared this with people for years and it works. My daughter never had another problem with her ears when swimming. It dries out the water and the alcohol kills any fungus. I hope this helps!!

I had swimmers ear a few years ago. The doc put me on the same stuff. 3 advil every 6 hours helped, but other than that there's not much you can do other than wait it out. You could try calling your doc to see if he could give you a prescription for a stronger pain killer...

hope you feel better
